Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

"Headsets are not supported on your Bluetooth hardware."

I'm on Tiger, a PowerBook 15", 1.25 GHz. I just bought a Motorola HS810 BT headset - following the instructions at the Apple support site, I launched the Bluetooth Setup Assistant and attempted to add device.

But when I select headset as the device to add, I get dumped to a screen saying: "Headsets are not supported on your Bluetooth hardware."

So I tried adding any device - I get a menu of visible devices, and it lists the headset - but when I go to advance to the next screen, once again I get: "Headsets are not supported on your Bluetooth hardware."

I've seen a number of similar but not identical posts suggesting upgrading the firmware - I'm on Tiger, so it's 1.526, no further updates available - updating the Bluetooth software - I'm on version 1.6, as far as I can tell, and no further updates available. I've read about zapping the PRAM, and done it, no change in symptoms.

So I'm wondering, is this a Tiger bug? Has anyone successfully joined a BT headset to a PowerBook G4?

Many thanks,

Mhm. Try the standard procedures for Mac OS X miracles:
Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > startup volume > Repair Permissions. If this helps not, start from the Mac OS X installations CD, select your language but do not install, rather select Disk Utility from the menu. There select your normal volume > First Aid > Repair Disk. If this helps not, create a new user in System Preferences > Users > Plus sign in the lower left and log-out – log-in into this new user.

Make sure Bluetooth is on and not turned off before updating.

Okay, I tried what you said. I even reset the permissions from a discussion further down. The updater isn't working for me. It works and then goes to idle and doesn't quit. AND, now I can't even get bluetooth to be recognized in the menu. It says Bluetooth is not available. (I'm on a G4 Powerbook Panther 10.3.9 and all my Bluetooth items are: File exchange 1.5.4 firmware updater 1.2.0, setup assistant 1.5.4, serial utility 1.5.4)

So do I reboot and risk it or what do I do.

here's my question - strongly related, but from different angle

I just bought a Bluetake G5 from RadTech to work with my PowerBook G4 1.25 (but after I get it and have the same "hardware doesn't support headsets" message, figure out that my PowerBook (with built-in Bluetooth) doesn'ty support Bluetooth II - which is what is required for this headset I guess.

My question is…can I buy a Bluetooth II adapter and plug it in to my Powerbook and use it INSTEAD of the built-in (if so, how do I get it to use the adapter instead) and use it with this headset? Hopefully someone knows the answer to my question and maybe it helps answer some of the questions already in here…thanks in advance!!!
