Magic Mouse lag issue.. new insight

Hey guys, as many of you i've purchased new magic mouse and been having problems with lag, and unresponsiveness.. I own a 24' imac which i bought a month before the latest update.. This whole situation is so bad for me that it really renders the mouse useless. However, i did find out few interesting things.. First off it only happens during the time HD is working overtime... For example if i am using apps that load up the cpu after a while it will start to lag. As soon as i turn them off, it all back to normal.. Games as well.. I recently tried to play world of warcraft with the mouse and it worked fine until the game made the imac go into overdrive and fans began spinning fast. The mouse started acting up again.. And most recently I realized it lags like **** when my time capsule is doing a back up.. As soon as time machine finishing working its all back to normal.. Very strange.. still no fix but that's what i could figure out so far.. Try it and see if you have those same symptoms.

In response to all that are having issues either during gaming, or after plugging in an external display (especially TB). This is what I did.

I had the same issue. I bought an IOGear bluetooth dongle and used it with a USB extension base

Works FLAWLESSLY. Even during intense gaming when both the Keyboard and mouse would get so laggy it was impossible to play. It even works better than it did during normal use when I didnt have the display plugged in.

Amazing results.

Bluetooth Dongle: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018O9JIG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&cr eative=390957&creativeASIN=B0018O9JIG&linkCode=as2&tag=sharaw-20

One thing to check, OSX directions sucked, so do this.

1. Leave your bluetooth on, with all devices still configured/connected

2. Option Click the bluetooth icon on your menu bar

3. Write down the 'Address' listed. This is the address of your internal Bluetooth

4. Plug in the Extension and then the Dongle.

5. Wait a couple seconds

6. Option click the bluetooth icon again

7. Make sure a different address is shown. If so, you are now transmitting/recieving from the dongle and not the macbook.

8. I plugged the extension into my Thunderbolt display and now I can just unplug my macbook and go. All peripherals will still work as it autoswitches back to the internal bluetooth once disconnected.

Hope this helps

After investigating the bluetooth problem a little I reconsidered my own magic mouse stuttle problem.

1) It had worked perfectly upon move to the new office

2) It was getting continually worse, it didn't just suddenly change.

Then finally I realised the problem. I'd buffed my desk in the area I use my mouse to smooth shine!

The optics on the mouse couldn't deal with it.

The solution was obvious and worked instantly. An ultrathin gaming mouse mat.

Has worked an absolute treat with no problems since.

This process helped me and may be of some use to anyone experience something similar -

1. Go into your System Preferences, then select Bluetooth.

2. Then from there, select the Bluetooh device that's giving you trouble and click "Advanced..."

User uploaded file

3. Advanced... settings should reveal that you're device is "On," but not Paired.

User uploaded file

Note: If you want to also clean up the channel frequency I would recommend selecting the check box for "Reject incoming audio request"

4.Select all the User uploaded file checkboxes and click "OK." This is essentially ensuring that pairing occurs between your Bluetooth device and your Mac.

SOLUTION (at least for one manifestation of this issue)

Mid 2010 MacBook Pro

BT Magic Mouse

BT Keyboard

I just started seeing lag on both devices today after them both working fine since I owned them, about 3 months. The lag I experienced on the mouse was like the cursor was being dragged through thick mud, completely unusable. For the keyboard is was delayed keystrokes.

For me, it was certainly and interference issue with my WiFi network (which my MacBook is also connected too). I determined what it was by

  • finding this thread
  • turning the WiFi (at the MacBook) on and off.

Sure enough, whenever the WiFi was off, KB and MM were back to full speed. What seemed to have triggered the issue was I moved the router closer to my MacBook (within one wall) and it was restarted when I moved it.

No amount of mouse cover removal, CMD-Option-P or re-pairing fixed the issue (I did see some brief intervals of them working, but nothing lasted).

I can't confirm for sure my WiFi router settings did not change after I restarted it but when the issue was prevalent my settings were:

Channel: Auto

Mode: 802.11n + 802.11g + 802.11b

Bandwith: 20Mhz/40Mhz

and to fix the lag problem immediately I changed the Channel to 1.

I've had problems with other devices (iPhone, iPad, Sony Laptop) in the past when I've fiddled with the settings but so far our other Apple Products (iPhone, iPad) are working just fine with the change.

Hope this helps someone out, this thread put me on the right track.

I was having this issue as well... But @Random....

Last week I wanted to find the culprit. And I have !!!

It is the iPhone.

I made a list and took notes of what I was doing every time the issue occurred.

The console would should no sign of anything.

the past week - My girlfriend had been using my iPhone to listen to music in a separate room. This week, I bought her a stereo ;-)

The past week I had ZERO trouble - this week nothing but trouble.

Going thru' my list, I noted that only the iPhone was the missing link.

So as the iphone was sitting next to me and the problem occurred I did this

Turned off its Bluetooth... == No Change (Lag & weirdness)

Turned off its WIFI == No Change (Lag & weirdness)

Put it into Airplane Mode == Change (No Lag No weirdness)

Put it back into Std Mode == Change (Lag & weirdness)

Moved iPhone to kitchen == Change (No Lag No weirdness)

I can do this all the time and repeat the problem 100% of the time

The iPhone is most definitely interfering with the stability of the Magic Mouse... NOT with the Trackpad !!!!!!!

Both using BlueTooth

But the again, we all know in 2014 that the only magic about the magic mouse is its ability to produce magic results,

NOT invoked by the user and cause Wrist Pain. But hey, it looks really cool ;-)

Hope this helps anyone with this problem,

I tested this with my iPhone 4s running iOS 7 --- So I don't know whether this applies to other models and OSs

First of all, I am sorry to revive this old discussion, but bear with me.

A few weeks ago, I acquired a used Mac Pro 1.1, as an exchange for some old, film cameras I've never used in the past couple of years. I am perfectly happy with the new machine (there are several other Apples in the household, including an iMac, Mac Mini, Macbook etc) until this morning, I noticed the mouse was veeeeery sluggish. I am using a Magic Mouse and a small, bluetooth keyboard with this machine. The Mac Pro sits next to my desk, while on the desk sits my iMac with a wired keyboard and another Magic Mouse.

I started looking on the net for reasons for the mouse slugginess and noticed some discussions about the wrong cables etc, going to the airport and bluetooth cards. So I opened up the Mac Pro to see if I have that issue. To my huge surprise, there are NO airport or bluetooth cards in my machine.

So my 10 mil US$ question is: How on earth does the keyboard and mouse connect to the computer?!?!

The System Report shows that there is a bluetooth device in the computer, but it is NOT physically there, still bluetooth devices can connect to it!! Here is the System Report.

Same thing happening here and it's driving me insane. The problems I've had and I'm still having now.

I bought the mouse about 3 months ago. The funny thing is that whenever I used it, my wi fi would be extremely slow. The only reason I noticed was because there's another computer here and that one would browse around the web just fine. So I tried by cutting off the mouse and voilá, problem fixed, network speed would go back to normal.

I checked out some posts about how to fix that and I ended up removing the network & preferences config file as described here:

http://osxdaily.com/2014/10/25/fix-wi-fi-problems-os-x-yosemite/

However, some issues remain:

1. Magic mouse lagging sporadically (I mean, it feels like I'm using a snail to handle my computer), but specially when using Microsoft Word.

2. Adobe products such as Illustrator, Fireworks, etc are a pain to use with a magic mouse, it lags, does strange things like scroll all over the workplace.

I must mention that I used to have a simple Microsoft Wireless mouse which never ever ever eeeever did that and it was way cheaper than my Magic Mouse. I'm truly disappointed with this product. I can understand that things can't be perfect but it's been a while and I haven't seen any official solutions / answers from the Apple team yet.
