Magic Mouse lag issue.. new insight

Hey guys, as many of you i've purchased new magic mouse and been having problems with lag, and unresponsiveness.. I own a 24' imac which i bought a month before the latest update.. This whole situation is so bad for me that it really renders the mouse useless. However, i did find out few interesting things.. First off it only happens during the time HD is working overtime... For example if i am using apps that load up the cpu after a while it will start to lag. As soon as i turn them off, it all back to normal.. Games as well.. I recently tried to play world of warcraft with the mouse and it worked fine until the game made the imac go into overdrive and fans began spinning fast. The mouse started acting up again.. And most recently I realized it lags like **** when my time capsule is doing a back up.. As soon as time machine finishing working its all back to normal.. Very strange.. still no fix but that's what i could figure out so far.. Try it and see if you have those same symptoms.

I agree with you 100%. The only time my Magic Mouse does this slow down or jumpy behavior is when i am wifi/BT syncing my iphone wiht itunes. I have ran handbrake + browse the wbe + transfer 10's of Gig's accross my network all at the same time and i have not been able to recreate this.

This is bizarre! I've been having the same problem as everyone else, but not all the time. Sometimes, I change the surface I'on which I'm using the mouse and it goes fine. Then eventually it starts to slow down again. I've got so fed up with it, I've actually started using a Logitech wire free optical mouse. But as an example of what I was saying at teh beginning, I've been trying various things that I've read on here and nothing's worked. Just now, I put away my mouse mat and started using the desk top again and it's now fine. I wonder how long it'll be before I have to get the mouse mat out again.

This worked for me:

I have a 2010 Mac Pro that I use at home with a magic mouse and have never had any lag issues. At work, I have a newer (mid-2012) Mac Pro that has had serious lag issues with the magic mouse. After searching, it seemed most people had narrowed it down to a Bluetooth connectivity issue. I had no interest in making the suggested modifications.

I considered the difference between my setup at home versus at work. At home, I have the computer sitting on the floor to the right side of my desk. At work, I had the computer sitting on top of my desk to my left. I noticed from inspection that (looking from the front of the computer), the Bluetooth components are on the left side of the computer. That meant, for me, the signal was having to pass through the processors, potentially causing interference.

With the computer still on top of the desk. I tested the mouse on the right side of the computer and on the left side of the computer (from just a few inches away). I noticed significant lag/jitter while on the right side, and no lag at all on the left side.

I rearranged the desk to have the computer on my right so that the mouse would be to the left of the computer, and the lag issues have vanished.

It's probably not the case for everyone, but my lag problem has been solved without removing the battery cover, switching wires, installing an antenna, ordering parts or anything else.

I hope this helps someone.

I solved this problem completely by logging onto works airport extreme wireless adapter via "Airport Utility" and changing to use frequency "802.11n only (5GHz)". The magic mouse frequency runs at 2.4Ghz so will have interference if they overlap.

All wireless devices should allow running at 5ghz, but to do it specifically on an airport extreme follow these steps.

- Load airport utility

- Click airport icon

- Wireless Tab > Click Wireless Options...

- from Radio Mode select "802.11n only (5Ghz)

- Click Save > Update

Edit: I didn't want to use a bluetooth dongle as some people suggested because I'm using a macbook pro and already have too many USB 2&3 connections using up all my USB ports!

The reason the USB dongle fixes the problem is because its using a range which doesn't interfere with the wifi frequency range. So if you simply change the wifi frequency it will fix the problem without using another USB port or costing money...

I hope that using one of the above "solutions" will fix it for me, but the fact that the Macbook (or the mouse), is unable to switch between the 79 frequenzy bands that bluetooth can, isnt acceptable. I dont know where the bluetooth radio is located in a macbook, but i would assume that it is not covered by the aluminum case. Bluetooth is not the newest of technologies, and it should work with a 2.4Ghz radio in an access point right next to it.

In our setup, we have at least 3 access points near the Macbook, and it is only the magic mouse that suffers from the problem. PCs and other devices have no problem using bluetooth. Would be nice with an Apple answer to this thread...
