Thank you Allstar83 for the (weird) tip! Removing the battery cover from the Magic Mouse solved instantly all the lag. Put the cover back again, the lag returns.
No problem verde! 🙂
However I still believe this battery cover thing is a temp solution as the lag returned for me after a while.. if you want to permanently fix this issue you should try buying a BlueTooth 2.0 (or higher) USB-stick. I bought one for 5 euro! It's really a 'tiny-ini-mini-stick' and after plugging it in the mac it instantly recognised the keyboard and the magic mouse via the USB stick(instead of the onboard bluetooth).
Works like a charm!
Good luck!
me too it started laging after i installed plants v zombies on my mac and i doesnt stop. even when the only app open is finder and im not connected to wifi pls help 😀
Hello Spyro,
There are two possible solutions in this thread. (remove battery cover and bluetooh 2.0 or higher USB stick). Did you try these already?
Yes! The problem is between WiFi 2.4GHz and Bluetooth! Just change the Radio Channel property to number 11 and restart your WiFi router! That's all! After that your Magic Mouse will work without glitches!
1) The mouse won't work with the battery cover removed. How do we get around this?
2) If I insert a Bluetooth dongle, the mouse is no longer responsive. Any ideas? Am I using this right?
Thanks!
Hey Seb29,
For me the BT dongle was instantly connected via Bluetooh with my magic mouse and keyboard. This lag/glitching described in this topic is caused by frequency interference so make sure you have the same issue by switching off any wifi signals (mac and/or wireless modem/router) and check if the glitching disappears. If so, make sure that your BT dongle is a higher version then the onboard bluetooth module and if so check if you are able to configure the BT dongle so that you are sure that the dongle is taking over the signal (instead of the onboard module).
Good luck!
How do I determine the strength of the BT dongle and that of my onboard module?
I think the actual strength of the signal is irrelevant.. you need to determine if the dongle is a bluetooth 2.0 (or higher), and if so then (if i'm correct) your mac will automatically set the dongle as primairy. Keep in mind that when your onboard BT module is a 1.0 version and you connected a 1.0 BT dongle it won't help as it is still transmitting on the same frequency so to solve this issue your BT dongle must be higher then your onboard module. If you are unable to determine both the version of your onboard and dongle then you might find it on the web.
Just for my information: are you connected to a wifi modem/router? Did you already determine that this is the same issue you are facing? (so when switching off the wifi the glitching disappears?) If so, you might also try switching your wifi channel on your moden/router.. I didn't try that but according to other users that should also solve the problem.
If you connect the dongle, is either the dongle or your mac showing you that its actually working?
Another option would be to try another bluetooth stick..
Already switched the channel but that did not work. It still skips when scrolling.
I will buy a stronger dongle to see if that fixes the issue.
Exact same problems as everyone else, but I have no mobile devices to upset signal and my macpro is under the desk 2 feet from mouse and keyboard. My network is ethernet.
I was hesitant to change any settings as my magic mouse has been working fine but gradually slowing and jumping.
I just did a permissions repair - 3 times in a row. And my sluggish mouse is back to normal.
So try this first.
I recently started having an erratic magic mouse behavior. I obtained a new mouse pad and the situation improved for a week or so, when it started happening again I stopped using the mouse pad and used the desk surface, it is now working okay. I tried using a piece of paper and the curser would not move at all.
I thought I'd cracked it with the repair permissions but am now beginning to think it was all a coincidence as it now intermittently lags.
I have had the same desk surface since new, and tried different ones. It was ok for the first 6 months so I cant see why it would not work now because of the same service.
I think I may try the dongle thing suggested or change the frequency....if I can find how to do this somewhere..
I'm thinking it's related to the new iOS as i recently updated my phone's OS and enabled BT/Wifi syncing. I'm going to disable that and see if it fixes my lag issues.
For those that have used some sort of reset on power up, this might just be coincidence. I have found just turning bluetooth on my MBP early 2011 off/on or turning the MM off/on will get the mouse to stop stuttering/lagging, so any reset/restart would do it to.
