no sound while booted in windows XP (iMac 10.6.1)

I have exactly the same problem.
Bought the new 27 inch imac and installed windows xp sp2 with bootcamp and then ran the driver software from the mac os x disc included with the imac.

everything works perfect but the sound!

googled my *ss off but couldn't find anything.

I have the same problem. Just installed Windows XP (32 bit, SP2) on my new iMac 27 inch, but no sound... Please help!

I have the same problem trying with XP SP3.

During uninstalling/installing the various sound drivers for Boot Camp, there is a particular combination that enables native Windows sounds to play, but when trying to play music though Windows Media Player, there is no sound (even though the scrubber moves and the visualisation kicks in once it starts playing).

The other disovery I've made is that after a fresh install of XP SP3 and a fresh install of Boot Camp, all sounds work (even in Media Player).

This is before a restart though. After a restart, there is again no sound at all.

I suspect it is something to do with the ATI graphics/sound drivers, because after the restart is when the graphics driver is utilised and higher resolutions are available etc. Uninstalling the ATI sound driver results in it reappearing again after a restart.

Just solved it! (for me at least)

Problem is that while installing bootcamp 3.0, it hangs at the point where the Cirrus Audio drivers are being installed... Only after cancelling it at that point, the bootcamp installer continues, but of course without having installed the correct Cirrus Audio drivers. Maybe I need to install SP3 first?

I changed the audio driver from ATI to Cirrus.
It still doesn't work.

27" iMac quad-core i5.

Oh, it did work after all. I'm not sure what I did exactly but I set the "Default device:" to Cirrus and fiddled with the "Advanced..." settings.

I am a PC person new to Mac

I installed XP using Boot camp, on my Mac Pro, - no sound

No solutions after searching forums and an unproductive phone call to support

I found that plugging in a speaker to the headphone socket works
