Bluetooth headset input volume is too quiet

I paired a Logitech Mobile PRO bluetooth headset to my iMac G5, primarily to use with Skype.

Technically everything works fine except that the microphone input volume is very muffled in all applications. The same headset, when paired to an IBM/windows laptop, sounds clear and unmuffled.

I opened the "Sound" system preferences panel and selected "Input" and then selected my headset from the list of available input devices. Setting the input volume slider to maximum does not seem to have an effect on the microphone sensitivity (exception. sliding all the way to the left shuts it off)

I used skype and in iMovie to playback some sample recordings made using the headset microphone. In both cases the sound is equally muffled, so I guess that Skype is not the cause of the problem.

Any hints on how I can get the OS X system to increase the mic sensitivity?

Many Thanks,
Matthew

Matthew,

I don't use Skype but I do use the Gizmo Project (same concept than Skype). I had the same problem than you.

I noticed that inside the Gizmo Project's settings you can also set the input volume. So even though in the system preferences I had it maxxed out, the Gizmo Project had it pretty low. Once I maxxed out that one as well, I had no problems with sound.

I would check inside Skype's settings to see if there's a volume control somewhere, that may be the cause of your problem.

I hope this helps,
Julian
