Palm TX bluetooth hotsync error

error message "Unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application" The Palm is recognized on the MAC, synced and all, and I have no problem hotsyncing via the usb cable, but the bluetooth is not working. All the tech notes I can find suggest turning apple talk off... and I'm running Tiger. Seems there is an app trying to use the same "serial port" but I don't know how to change it, or turn it off. This is the only bluetooth link I have.

Even mac tech support sent me an article written in 1999. Needless to say it was outdated, but there is definately a sync problem out there with this issue.

Sorry I can't answer your question because I am having the same error message when I try to sync my Palm T5 with my Mac.

"Unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application"

Any other members can offer advise?
I have an iMac with wireless Keyboard, Mouse. How many Bluetooth ports are available?
The Palm is recognise and paired with Mac.
Have managed to get Palm to Hotsync via USB cable and also via isync 2.1 as part of the OSX 10.4.3 (combo upgrade)

Finally I want to connect my Palm via Bluetooth but after 30+seconds it results in the error message above.

Hi Derek
I have investigated the problem and read through technical descritions on the Apple and Palm sites. I managed to solve my problem by checking all the steps for setting up bluetooth. Pairing with your mac and then open Hotsync and select the PDA-Bluetooth port. Mote I left the USB cable port also selected. The port which is used is then selected on the Palm Hotsync screen from the dropdown.

Hope this helps

Hate to say it, but after many agonizing hours of tech support, I resolved my problem by reinstalling Tiger. I have seen the message since, but any conflict is now quickly resolved via hot sync manager. make sure you have the pda bluetooth selected, if your using the cradle select usb and palmsync as well. All three are checked on mine and my TX syncs perfectly now with both bluetooth and the cradle. Even the iSync program falls right in line.
After spending so many hours working on this it is my understanding that there shouldn't be a problem with the amount of BT devices.

Hopefully it's a settings problem. I wiped my drive with a erase and install, updated back to 10.4.3, paired the devices via bluetooth, reinstalled palm os, disabled hot sync, changed the connection settings, enabled hot sync, set hotsync settings via my TX, performed a cradle hot sync first (to make sure all programming had been updated) , and then dared to try a bluetooth hotsync. Happily it worked, and has been running like it should ever since. After that I set up the device via iSync (enable os device) and that works great too.
