Multi-touch trackpad gestures not working (Macbook pro 15" unibody)

Hi,

I have a 5 day old Macbook Pro and since yesterday ive been having an intermittent fault with the 3 and 4 finger gestures on the track pad. They stop working and don't even work on restart. the computer needs to be shutdown then turned on again for it to work. When it wasn't working, i created a new user account and switched to that and it worked fine, when i switched back to my account it carried on working fine as well. I do have parallels installed with windows xp but use that rarely and the problem hasn't occurred when i have that on (only reason i mention is is that i noticed the fault a few hours after installing parallels). One of the times the problem occurred is when the computer came out of standby.

Is this a software issue or hardware issue? Does apple know about it and are they making a fix?

Thanx!!

Same issue. 10.6.2 as well. Just did all the latest updates.

Had an issue where my computer wouldn't start beyond the white loading screen and had to use the install disks to repair the hdd to get it working again. I noticed that right before I shut it down the last time before the repair was needed that the gestures were not working.

I got a new MBP 13" just over a week ago, and I'm having the same problem, 3 and 4 finger gestures stop working. I sometimes use a USB mouse, and I'm wondering if this is related to a problem several people have noticed there, which is if you assign expose to a mouse button that frequently stops working. Seems like something is messed up in mouse interface preferences in general. Here's hoping for 10.6.3 soon . . .

Update: Elsewhere I've seen a suggested fix being repair permissions in Disk Utility and reboot. I just did that and my gestures are working again today, but I have no idea if that's thanks to the repair permissions or just the reboot.

This is VERY strange my trackpad Three and Four finger feature also stopped working from one minute to the next i noticed this happen after checking for an update. ALSO at this same time i feel that the volume on my speakers reduced on their own the volume sounds to be halfway when at its loudest compared to before. I use a software called Virtual DJ and it aswell stopped working after this update. I cannot recall what i updated but i know it started happening after this update. IF ANYONE CAN HELP! PPLLEEEAASSEEE i would greatly appreciate it.

Hey Guys,

As I said before, I'm a technician working for a self-servicing provider. I'm going to see if some of my internal contacts have heard any more reports of this.

However, personally, after doing the fsck command I mentioned earlier along with a repair permissions in disk utility, the problem has not returned for me. *Can you guys that are continuing to experience this verify for me that you have done both of these things followed by a reboot?*

I'd like to be as consistent as possible. Thanks.

I'm having slightly a different problem. But it seems the trackpad gestures are affected as well.

i've tried your fix and it was a no go. rebooted and still having the same problem.

1. after reboot, programs load up and all. the pro seems that its finished doing what is doing but the trackpad and keyboard remains unresponsive for the next few minutes. after such time, it does all the commands that i've inputted during the time it was unresponsive.

2. gesture still remain unchanged, non functional.

any insight?
