iMac won't wake up from sleep using keyboard or mouse

I'm not sure what is happening but as of today neither of my wireless devices will wake the iMac - no problem use keyboard and mouse once the iMac is awake. Yesterday I had problems with the wireless keyboard disappearing from Bluetooth.
Now I have to press the power button if the iMac goes to sleep and even then it is a bit slow to respond. It is real pain in the face. What is the remedy anyone?

The only thing that really sounded wacky about it was that the computer was not "fully asleep." Kinda like my dog... one eye opens, to check things out, then back to sleep he goes. But I digress. Anyway, the solution did not work for my situation, and I remain stuck with an iMac that has to be powered off and back on again to wake from "sleep." But as I said before, it's clearly not completely asleep, since the cursor is on the screen, but nevertheless the tips I've seen don't work here. Ughhh!

Very strange. Like many I've had problems with "sleep" from the time I purchased this iMac. Tried a few solutions and one seemed to work ... then didn't. So just set up to try the "not fully asleep" tip and dutifully put my iMac to sleep by hitting the sleep button. Then just hit the keyboard .. and the Mac woke up ... as well it should but never has! Tried it again. Worked as normal again. Have no idea what's going on (and confess I'm tired of playing around with it, trying various combinations of possible solutions) but hope the iMac keeps up the good work. This "can't wake up" problem seems a bit bizarre.

I'm having this problem as well.....

my new imac will not wake-up with either the mouse or keyboard and then it doesn't respond to the power button. I've tried holding hitting the power button, holding the power button down and it still won't respond.

The only thing that works for me is to unplug computer and plug it back it and then everything is fine.

I've taken it to the Genius Bar a couple of times and they can't get the computer to not wake up while it's with them. Since this 'not responding' problem is intermittent - I'm getting no help from Genius Bar. They told me to turn off my computer more.

Not happy because a new computer should not be acting this way (and taking the computer in takes too many hours)

It also seems to get extremely hot while it's on.....

What's the solution?

I have had this same problem on and off. Right now I have found that turning my mac off at night when I am going to sleep seems to be keeping it from happening. It seems to occur most often if I leave the mac on for several days in a row. I thought about calling Apple Care, but figure they will tell me to do what you are doing and what I have been doing which is basically what the Genius Bar people said. I find it less annoying to do this than to have to go through the unplug etc routine, which I have to do sometimes when my magic mouse gets out of wack. I learned early on this is called resetting the SMC. If you want more information about that you can find it here .

when you say click

control

shift

eject, is eject the arrow key in the top row, far right, on the wireless BT keyboard?

I am on my 2nd imac, the first one did the sleep and won't wake without being unplugged and replugged in, which is a pain as the power strip is under my desk. Now the 2nd imac is doing this. I have unplugged my new usb drive to see if that helps as I've read in many places that they can cause a lot of trouble.

In the meantime, I'm here looking for tips in case it doesn't help.

fingers crossed...
