iMac won't wake up from sleep using keyboard or mouse
Now I have to press the power button if the iMac goes to sleep and even then it is a bit slow to respond. It is real pain in the face. What is the remedy anyone?

I'm not sure I have the exact same problem as this thread discusses, but some of you might find this helpful:

The only thing I found to help is disconnecting all of the external hard drives. I was hoping that by now apple would have created a fix for it, but to no avail. The only thing that ***** about that is if your hard drive does not have a thunderbolt port transfer speeds are really slow and it won't wake up. And this means that you will need to start your download process all over.
Turn down monitor brightness until problem goes away. Mine did. Now I'm typing away without a care in the world.
