iMac won't wake up from sleep using keyboard or mouse

I'm not sure what is happening but as of today neither of my wireless devices will wake the iMac - no problem use keyboard and mouse once the iMac is awake. Yesterday I had problems with the wireless keyboard disappearing from Bluetooth.
Now I have to press the power button if the iMac goes to sleep and even then it is a bit slow to respond. It is real pain in the face. What is the remedy anyone?

I've got a new iMac 10.6.8 fully updated and a different sleep problem - the computer goes to sleep normally, both by direct command and (if I set it) automatically after an inaction time. However, instead of waking up when requested, it instantly switches its power off! (I have a USB-powered card reader with an indicator light - that's how I know when power is on or off.)

AppleCare response: "something must have been hit", reinstall the OS yet again :-( The system came with a virus in the file access system so my store had to hard-format the disk then I had to reinstal OS, restore all my settings and all apps and data. Then I installed a weather widget from the Apple Store that turned out to only work in the US - deleting it "hit something" and had to reinstal OS the second time. This would be the third time...

I switched from PC to get rid of the perennial system hits from viruses, worms etc. despite firewalls that got in my way every time I turned around, not to mention so many bugs in XP that I lost count...

Anyway, I'm NOT reinstalling yet again - I've disabled autosleep and just turn the #$%^ thing off. Until, that is, Apple finds out how to fix all the problems related to sleep. It's obvious from this thread that they aren't trying hard enough.

I believe I have the same issue as everyone else. Although now I was thinking I had some major problems until the member above posted something about his turning off sometimes because the screen went black. Mine just did this and this is what set me off to find out whats the matter.

My computer is a 2009 27" iMac running Lion now. Ever since the Lion update is when I began having problems.

The Apple Store has my iMac and they are running some diagnostics to see what's going on. He said they'd replaced the serial cable to the SuperDrive to see if that fixed anything. It may fix the problem with the SuperDrive removing itself from the computer, yes it just disappears from the computer like I've just unplugged the power/cable from it but I don't know about the wake/sleep issue.

I sent a second request for support to OWC concerning their SSDs. They asked me for computer model number (MacBookPro3,5) and Firmware Revision Number (found in the More Info "About this computer" under the Serial ATA section - a number beginning with 360). I'm still waiting for a response. Tech support says they have never heard of this problem, I suggest you file a support request with your SSD provider.

I also have this issue with my iMac 27" 2.93 i7 I have had the machine for less then a year and it started quite soon after i got it.. I have talked to support etc.. I even had it in the shop for a few weeks while they played with it and could not reproduce the error.. But i went in one day and reproduced it in 2 min so they then believed me.. They still could not really reproduce it them selves but they did replace the video card.. I had it home for about an hour before it did it again.. I will maybe send them my external drive this time although when it was in the shop i with nothing extra plugged in at all... But maybe it would be more consistent if there was an external drive plugged in to the USB..

I have also had it boot up with no display.. I also have an external monitor attached and that display comes on when i wake it up but not the main display.. same if it boots with no display.. the external one comes on but not the main one.

I have not upgraded to Lion yet.. I am actually thinking of selling this beast so i want to get it working properly first..

I took my 2009 27" into the Apple Store, they went thru a bunch of hardware tests and what not. He told me they'd keep it for about 2 weeks and run some very stringant test on it. They called about 3-4 days later and said that it was ready for pick up.

I asked what was the matter and they said they couldn't find ANYTHING wrong with it. I said that it was messing up right in front of the geek dude and she said that she could replace a bunch of things and charge me if I wanted.

She did say that they reset a bunch of software applications and I gotta say after about a week of having it back it has performed flawlessly and no problems with waking up with the keyboard or mouse/trackpad. I really don't know what they exactly did but so far it's working perfectly unlike before were I'd have to manually restart it several times a day because it wouldn't wake up.

I'm not at my computer at this moment. This is done on my iPad at a location well way from my beloved Mac. In the system preference uncheck network access or wake for network I'm not sure, being away from my Mac. The screen saver should be set to go on before the sleep mode. I done this last January and had no problems since.

Hope this helps.

I'm looking at that under System Preference/Energy Saver. I have "Wake for network access" checked and it's been running fine. I'm going to leave it as is unless I start having the wake problem again.

I have the screen saver set to 10 minutes, display sleep at 15 minutes, and computer sleep at 20 minutes.

This is a setting I set personally recently and it appears to be working correctly, and hopefully it was just that.

So i just tried the FIX... I turned off the wake with Network and changed my screen saver time.. I normally just leave the screen saver turned off but i turned it on and set it to a low number..

Now my machine does not lock but does not go to sleep either.. I can tell from an external drive and the fact that the machine comes on immediatly.

Screen saver 4 min

Display 5 min

Sleep 7 min

I have them set to low numbers for testing.. currently working on my PC instead till i get this figured out
