iMac won't wake up from sleep using keyboard or mouse

Hi, Snagged, I can tell you deductively that it wasn't the 10.7.1 (or .2 for that matter). I did just now do the wifi and permissions bit though. If it works for me then we'll have it narrowed down to two possible fixes. Thanks.

Min seems to have setted down and is waking up fro sleep OK all the time now. I have got 3rd party RAM in the iMAC (an extra 8GB) and all I have done to improve the situation is to reset the PRAM.

I also reset the PRAM on my iMac a few weeks ago and have had no further sleep/wake issues. I had previously tried many other settings changes so I can't say positively that the PRAM reset fixed things but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi Folks, I have been having the same problem with my iMac 21.5 inc (mid 2010) from new out of the box. The concern that I have is Apple’s treatment of this issue especially in light of the number of persons that is experiencing the problem of their system not waking from sleep via keyboard or mouse. I am wondering whether Apple monitors sites like this and if they are not concerned by the number of their customers that are having this problem and if so why do they not speak to it instead of having us trying to resolve it on our own.

In order to resolve this problem I have resorted to setting my system to NEVER sleep and what I find extremely strange is that when I put my system to sleep by clicking on the Apple symbol located at the top left of the screen and then select SLEEP the unit will wake even after sitting all night. However, when the Energy Saving setting in System Preference is set to the default position and the system is left for an extended period it will not wake from sleep. I find this extremely starnge and ergo I am wondering whether there is any connection between both settings/action.

Finally I am also wondering if there is anyway that we can all get together all get together and form a group in order to petition/lobby Apple to address and correct this problem

Agree completely - I have a similar iMac - mid-2010 21,5" etc. I'm tired of trying "solutions" which sometimes work for a little while ... and then don't. I have simply accepted defeat and never put the mac to sleep. Agree with volney that Apple should address the issue. How we "petition" Apple? Are they aware of the problem (one would be surprised if they weren't)?

I was about to do the PRAM fix and got sidetracked.. i ended up doing the SMC or something like that where you just unplug you mac for a bit.. it helped it.. i was being forced to reboot when usually i just have to force it to sleep.. now i am back to just having to for it to sleep again.. Now i finally just set it to not go to sleep ever but it still turns off the display... well that does the same thing for me. My external display comes on but the main display does not.

I wish i had time to take it into the shop but am totally bogged with mac work at the moment.

I posted last year at some point and tried all the resets, etc. When I unplugged the OWC usb hub I'd bought and plugged in to have more usb ports, it stopped completely, and has not happened again, for months now. I do not know of others here have extra things plugged in. But you might consider trying to have JUST your computer, modem or router, airport and a keyboard or mouse, depending on what you use wireless and which is wired. See if the issue continues with just the basic items. Run it that way for a few days and then add back in one extra at a time. For my situation, it was the usb hub.

Yes i do have a usb mouse and an external monitor and an external HD hooked up.. That is it..... but i sent it in for testing and to be fixed for this problem for two weeks a few months ago and i was able to reproduct it there with absolutely nothing else plugged in.. Took me one try.. They had issues reproducing it but they all saw me do it in 5 min.. they replaced a video board and i brought it home and it happened the instant i started to use it..

Hmmm now that i think of it. The external drive was later and so was the usb mouse and monitor. I ran mine for quite a while with nothing else besides network plugged into it. And still had the problem.

I am sure for some people it is an external issue... or maybe the external issue just makes it worse. If it is an electrical flaw in a board then loading a system down on some machines might tip the scales.. I have no idea.

I have the same problem. iMac sleeps, will not wake up via bluetooth trackpad or mouse. If you wake with the keyboard the devices will work, but if you move the mouse or the trackpad to wake it, you have to reboot to get them to work again. It's really **** annoying.

Having the same problem. Somethines after sleep I cannot wakup the iMac (2011, 10.7.3), and I have to press the power button for 5sec and turn the computer back on.

I've set up the Sleepmode=1 (hibernation) and I think it might be a good workaround.

Also, in addition to hibernation mode, I've also set the Sleep after 30min (default 15min), and Turn monitor off after 5min. This is of course different to all users, varies on usage...

I've actually set hibernationmode=3, as I found it more practical...

same here. old imac 21inch, full of ram, upgraded to Lion today.

if i leave the computer until it goes to sleep, keyboard and magic mouse won't wake it up - snooze light stays on (not blinking/throbbing).

i have to hold button to kill it, then restart. interestingly, it goes back to exactly where it was before, opens safari to the same web page etc.

i'm going to try the solution i saw here that suggests it is still on - so just hit the power button for a second, let it go to sleep for real, then wake it up again with the keyboard/mouse.

i have also unplugged a usb hub.

I would also like to use this opportunity to sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this post, however, my intention were not malicious I was only trying to get what I consider to be a matter that needs to be addressed by Apple that for some reason is being ignored.

I have the same problem and was on the phone with Apple support and finally figured that the problem lies with my wireless devices - keyboard, mouse and trackpad. So to solve the problem I turned off my trackpad. With only the wireless keyboard and mouse I am now able to wake up the sleeping iMac. If I use wired keyboard and/or mouse, problem solved too. So the issue is with the wireless devices and their conflicting (maybe) signals. Also check your batteries.

Ikyo2004 it may have fixed your problem but I had a wired keyboard & mouse (no wireless at all) and I still had the problem. Give yours a week and see if it's fixed. In the end I sent my 24" back to where I got it and brought a new 27" imac with no problems at all.
