iMac won't wake up from sleep using keyboard or mouse

I got similar problem. I had a major issue with a USB hub (trust pyramid) where the iMac restarted itself when connecting devices to the hub. I bought myself a Belkin hub instead and now the problem did not appear.

After this installation I have had 2 times when the computer does not wake from sleep.

I can hear that there is a sound from the Mac. I think it is a fan because when I power the iMac off I hear the sound sounding like a fan slowing down.

This must be related to USB I guess since I didnt have it before.

That worked for me too. So far so good. Have not had to wake the computer with the power switch in several weeks. I was surprised when I looked at the settings that the computer was set to sleep before the screen saver went on. I might have changed the default settings at some point, but don't recall.

I think it is the default setting, but ever since I adjusted the time on the screen saver I have had no problem with the computer waking. My friend was having the same problem with his G4 and I checked his screen saver and sure enough the same thing was going on with his G4. I find it hard to believe Apple has not changed the default settings if this is such a wide spread problem as these posts seem to suggest.

Well that setting did nothing for my problem.. not sure why.

I also have the grey smudge problem. Wish i had bought a used mac pro instead. Not sure what i was thinking.

My dvd drive also scratches disks and makes then unusable unless you take them in and out VERY carefully..

Is the screen going to sleep before the screen saver activates? On mine the screen was sleeping and that was what would not wake up. Once I adjusted the time on the screen saver in system preferences I haven't had any more problems. Computer sleep is a different setting from screen sleep. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear before.

Pretty sure.. I tried all the suggestions months ago to no avail.. I just set it up again tonight.. see how it goes.

15 min for screen saver 30 min for screen sleep and 1 hr for computer sleep.

Dealing with the same issue here. The problem occured recently and to resolve it, I tried wiping my system. It worked fine for a while, woke up fine, didn't stop me from ejecting any drives and ddin't keep asking for keychain access. Setup iCloud services and started installing apps from appstore and MetaX. That's when the issue showed up again. I tried Plucker's fix; deleting the PowerManagement.plist and changed the default time for the screensaver to start before sleep. It's working fine so far but I'm not sold on that being the real fix. I'll see how this goes.

Another funny thing.. I am using a screen saver now which i never did before but after the last suggestion to me i decided i would leave it on.. Now some times i get stuck in Screen Saver mode.. The screen saver running and i can not get out of it.. I can switch to my Oh... what ever that screen is called with widgets on it like the weather etc... i can do that but not the main screen.. I had to kill it.

Interestingly enough, I have this exact issue on my new late 2012 27" iMac. It will not wake from sleep using the keyboard (connected by cable) nor mouse (wireless). I have to press the power button to wake it up. Is this a hardware issue? Or is it software? Is there a fix?

I think there have been a few threads discussing this problem. I had the same issue off and on since some point in Snow Leopard 10.6.x, right through to Mountain Lion. For me it seemed to be corrected in 10.8.2 but I have seen mentions on here where, like you, some still have the problem.

The problem seems to be connected with Bluetooth not waking properly.

The only 'fix' that worked for me 100% of the time was to go to: System Preferences>Energy Saver and set 'computer sleep' to 'never'.

Actually, it's not specifically a Bluetooth issue. I have a wired keyboard and trackball. I have the same set up at work and at home. I have only had one sleep to wake fail with the home computer. I have had multiple wake to sleep fails with the work computer. Sometimes daily, othertimes it can be just once or twice a month. I never know what will happend with the work computer.

The next time it wont wake, before going fot the power button, try unplugging the wired keyboard from the USB port for a second and then plug it back in.

That is what I have resorted to, and in my case it works. Easier on the computer than the power button, but still not the greates.

I think my computer may have a problem with power to the USB ports. I had pretty much figured out one was not working properly. Then another one started having problems, and the first "bad" one is now being used.

My IT person suggested getting a powered USB hub, but the _powered hub_ would not worked when plugged into my computer.

When the computer is sleeping, I believe it will only wake with the keyboard. At least that's how it seems with my set up.

Interestingly enough, a coworker of mine, also on an iMac, had a problem where her keyboard stopped working and she had to unplug/replug it in.

Anyway, I would be curious to know whether unplugging the keyboard and replugging it in works for you...
