Summarizing records in an AppleWorks Database

Hello,

I use AppleWorks DB for more than 6 years.

In the Layout Mode, when I want to insert a part (to create a Sub-Summary, or a Summary) AW ask me to choose a field for this sub-summary (or the grand summary).
I choose the field (let’s suppose is the “Name” field) and after I choose some fields to appear in the part that I inserted.

In the Browse Mode, I know that to be able to view the records summarized I need to sort the records by that particular field according to which I summarize the records (the “Name” field).

This is to let you know that I understand the basics.

Now comes the problem and the question:

sometimes it does not work and sometimes it works; I have spent hours of work trying to get the records summarized, sometimes with no success.

Is there some hidden trick that I should know, in order to get things done at the time I ask them?

Thanks in advance,

Lucas (the guy from Rio grande do Sul)

Jorge,
It was the briefest answer the BrieFly could think
of. ;-)

John,

I do not want to appear that I am always right, but soon after my previous post, I almost add that your phrase " Others can only hope. ;-)" could be my answer.

But, now I add that would not be natural be always briefly, because we are not the machines we love and, we need to go into some extra to have fun.
We are here not for money, but to interact with strangers, that we feel as friends.

It occurs to me, John, that if someone wants to hire one of us for US$ 1.00 per advice, each one of us would refuse.
Although, if we did accept that offer, some would have enough money to buy an New iMac G5.

So ... share your knowledge, expanding your words!

Regards,

Lucas (the guy from Rio Grande do Sul)

From Yvan's occasional simple "no" to the detailed explanations from Jorge or Barry (and all the rest that might fall somewhere in between), I'd be hard-pressed to say that any particular response has been either too terse, or too lengthy. Yvan recently expressed my sentiments exactly when he said that he comes here, not so much to score points, but rather to learn better some of the nuances of an already very useful tool. Sometimes we can learn more from someone's dilemma than from hours of using a program without incident.

Hello

I wish to add that I didn't wrote:

"I am the one who responded NO" to a specific question.

I wrote:

Hello Peggy and Dale
Don't worry 😉
A response like a single "No" may be one of mine !

Which means that I may have post such a response but, I am not sure that it is the one you read 😉

As English is not my native language, if I think that a short (even a very short) response may be sufficient, I pass it.
I am not here to win a Nobel prize, just to TRY to help and to learn.
