Top 25 Most Played Playlist Incorrect

This is a stupid yet frustrating problem.

The Top 25 Most Played playlist in my Laptops iTunes is correct and normal.

The playlist that syncs to the phone however is completely wrong and does not match the computer at all.

I have restored the phone and still run into this problem...

Same problem for me, I don't want to format my phone to see if that fixes the problem though

The iphone's top 25 list is not the same as in itunes

But even more strange, when I connect my iphone to itunes, and click the little arrow button on the iphone under devices (in itunes) to see my phones playlist, when I look at the top 25 list it's the correct one!!! (in other words, the one i see in itunes).

But on the phone, it's still the wrong list, and way wrong, nothing on that list is on my actual top 25 so no idea what's going on here. And I didn't have this problem before OS 3 from what I can remember.

Will be interesting to see how long this takes to get fixed...

This is not necessary. Simply go the Playlists sidebar on the left side of iTunes, right click (or option-click) the playlist (this is the iTunes playlist we're talking about, not under the iPhone in the sidebar), select Edit Smart Playlist and untick "Live Updating". Sync your iPhone and then if you want to turn back on Live Updating with accurate results you'll have to go back in and retick it, and add a new rule where "Playlist" "is" "Music". Sync again and things should be back to normal.

Apple introduced this problem on 09 September 2009, when they released the new iPhone OS 3.1 software update.

Today is 17 November 2009. Over 2 months have passed, yet this problem still exists.

Sure, there are workarounds, but these shouldn't be necessary. Apple have broken Smart Playlists on the iPhone and are in no rush to fix it. How can they expect anyone to use their technology, if they're not interested in it working properly?

You can try this instead if you want to keep live updating - edit the smart playlist and add 'playlist is music'. Your playlist will show correctly on iphone and keep updated, but no good if you want to include other media in the playlist of course.
