Safari won't download files

Safari won't download files

Hi there,

I'm having major issues downloading files with Safari. When I click to download a file I'm left with a black browser screen and no file gets downloaded.

I did have Folx installed but I removed that and followed the extra instructions on their website, but still nothing.

I was contemplating reinstalling Safari, but I'm not sure that would cure the issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

That didn't work I'm afraid.

Here is a screenshot of what happens when I clicked to download the Spotify installer. This happens with all file types though. http://www.uploadscreenshot.com/image/43019/9320868

HI,

Make sure there is enough free disk space to download files to.

Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.*

If necessary, go here to get help to Free Up Disk Space

From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...

from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.

*If you decide to reinstall Safari, do not download it from Apple, reinstall from your SL disk.*

Insert the Snow Leopard install disk. Open the Optional Installs folder, then open Optional Installs.mpkg

An Installer will start... click Continue. When you get to the Installation Type in the window on the right you will see: Applications. Click the Disclosure triangle so it faces down. Select Safari and click Continue.

Okay, what other Safari plugins do you have running, and which one did you install just before this problem started? Check in /Library/InputManagers, Home/Library/InputManagers, and /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins and list all of them in your reply.

What sort of files are you trying to download; PDF, or something else? Do you have Adobe Reader or Acrobat Pro installed?

Reinstalling Safari will not help you, since that's not the problem.

It's happening on all types of files. dmgs, zips etc....

Try this:

Quit Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the Downloads.plist and History.plist files.
Restart Safari and see if the problem continues.

Okay, then quit Safari, go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete the com.apple.Safari.plist file.
Then restart Safari and test it again.

Do you have SpeedDownload installed?

I was having the same problem, and I updated SD to 5.2.7, and now I am downloading again in Safari automatically.
