French Canadian keyboard

Question

French Canadian keyboard

I've been using: Canadian French.rsrc for the French Canadian keyboard. On Snow, this keyboard works fine on Office and even in this message (ç, é, â) they are all in the right places but not on Mail. If I switch to Mail, the icon (top right) switches automatically to another keyboard (either American or Canadian French CSA)
Has anybody experience this before ? I d/l a new copy of Canadian French.rsrc from http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/FileSharing.woa/wa/default?user=thgewecke&tem platefn=FileSharing9.html&xmlfn=TKDocument.9.xml&sitefn=TKSite.3.xml&aff=consume r&cty=US&lang=en
but the problem remains the same

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Is there a special reason for using that instead of the Canadian French - CSA that comes with the OS? I think I made that .rsrc file 6 years ago when there were limited options available. It may need to be converted to a .keylayout file to work in all apps now.

The CSA keyboard layout is not one I'm familiar with (and at 61 yrs old, I don't really want to learn how to type again ) How can that be converted to a .keylayout ?

I would probably use Ukelele to modify the CSA version:

http://scripts.sil.org/ukelele

What in CSA needs to be changed? I've done lots of these and could probably make what you need without much work.

I think you may be using the OS 9 Canadian French layout. I found a utility to convert it to the .keylayout format and have emailed you a copy to try.

I learned to type on an old smith corona with dead keys. To use the CSA keyboard layout I actually have to look at the keys. I have the same problem in France, the layout is different from the CSA layout and is yet another headache.

I managed to convert the layout to the xml version . . . yippee the old dog don't need to learn a new trick.
