Portugal Warranty Issues - Vodafone

Hi to all,

i wouldlike to share with you some problems regarding iPhone 3G, i am a power user of my mobile and in here we got legislation for 2 years warranty.
My iphone as some scratches on the back and a tiny crack on the charge port because i am using the dock that is way to tight and made it, so i got some usage marks wich are normal for a 14 month iPhone used daily.

Two days ago my HOME putton stoped working for no reason, so if i got say a SMS and needed to make a call i need to shutdown and power up again

So today i took my iPhone to my service provider, for a repair… as they looked they saied give us 250USD (more or less in euros) and we repair it or replace it cause it has usage marks… my iPhone in the front (display/home button) is in pristine shape, no scratches nothing… i said the problem here is the home button not usage (cosmetic) marks.

So now the funny part is, Apple did a deal with the operators, and they say what they want, since Apple covers the 1st year and the Operator the second Year they pull every ******** from the books to make you pay for a new iPhone. Worst is that no Apple service is here to help you, or to give a second opinion.

I've been a Mac user for over 15 years and had 2 issues that were solved the right way, i do not know or care about the deals Apple does or doesn't do… but u can't the be the police, the judge and the jury and let an operator decide based on their bank account and furthermore stating it is Apple who states that "cosmetic" and hardware failure it is the same thing.

I am not settling for a situation where i get robbed twice and intend on filling law suits if needed cause this is no way to say you care for a customer.

If i didn't care for my iPhone ok i would have to pay, no problems on that, but being robbed cause they have all the tools to decide and judge… no way

Shame on you Apple this time you did very very wrong

"This warranty does not apply: (a) to consumable parts, such as batteries, unless damage has
occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship; (b) to cosmetic damage, including but not
limited to scratches, dents, and broken plastic on ports"

In Portugal every electronic device has a 2 year warranty period by law, so 1st of all Apple can'r say it is 1 year unless they choose to not sell here.
Secondly they make it so the operators use any tricks in the book so they don't cover any problems cause it will come out of their pockets.

I got several Mac's and each time i had a problem they were solved by Interlog with no questions asked, now that iPhones are covered by the operator they 1st ask you for the iPhone cost to them or you get a report of any malfuction so they claim the warranty is void

And worst is that you can't have any 3rd party to go to in order to get a report

So it is Apple's fault to leave it's customers on their own

Tamara, just came from the store and they don't claim that anymore cause warranty doesn't cover cosmetic damages but i just wanted my HOME button fixed i can live with my usage marks.

Now they say it is Humidity traces on just one of both points, thing is, i knew since i went there yesterday they would have any excuse to refuse, so i got from apple ireland iPhone warranty and they knew i wouldn't stand still and my iPhone costed 905USD

i never used in the rain or got it even near water, so now i know, u better get your iPhone in a bubble, use it with gloves and don't buy a dock that is way too tight for your iPhone cause mine was…it was not forced it was too tight

Vodafone in Portugal since yesterday showed how to use any trick on the book not to fix your iPhone, and they did it, dunno if they put the sensor on, or not but since i left it there yesterday i had this hunch they would invent whatever to void it.
You may ask why, cause they looked and asked immediatly for over 300usd not even opening it or anything and claimed what iPhone warranty doesn't claim that scratches and a 4mm crack on port voids hardware issues

Well they did it and also now Vodafone and Apple lost a 15 year client… if you want to teach people how to behave responsabily when they don't…stop buying the products

I am done! in my household we got 3 iPhones but they won't ever be in my xmas wishlist

Hi,

i had the same problems. first of all they tried to make me pay a replacement without even checking on the malfunction from the technical view, and after i got a report for bad usage and i care too much for my phone

But the dropped on water was also too much for me, so i got my phone back and now it is stored inside the drawer.
As for warranty i think it is a Vodafone Portugal problem, cause they indeed are greedy, but Apple should have a center where you could get a second opinion.

Problem was solved by the quality department of portuguese Vodafone, at least there was someone who could understand my claim.

However Apple needs to revise those humidity sensors policy because they are giving too much problems and false positives, or it is a design flaw or a nice solution to void your warranty

Fortunatly i got all issues solved, but it had to be trough Vodafone
