AOL/APPLE ID ISSUE RESOLVED...SORT OF

I had the same issue when I upgraded to windows 7. I bought a ton of music back when iTunes used "aol" as a login. Now that they require to convert it to a Apple ID, when I tried to listen to music downloaded from "aol" login, it asked me to authorize. Now when I tried to authorize having to use "aol" login (as is was the login I originally used) it tried to redirect me to convert to Apple Id. Enter the endless vortex.... Well, what I did was simply create another apple ID for the old "aol" songs to authorize. I used a secondary e-mail I have. Now I can Play all my music.

i have been reading through the forums and searching google to solve this problem, and this is what worked for me. it was really through a lot of trial and error, so i hope this works for all of you.

my situation: i had been using my AIM account for a long time (soozy), and somewhere along the way apple asked me to create my own user ID (soozy@gmail.com) but had also migrated my AIM into its own apple ID (soozy@aol.com).

trying to use soozy@gmail.com was getting me no where. this is what i did to solve the problem.

1) under Apple ID radio: request a password reset for soozy@aol.com
2) go to http://webmail.aol.com - used soozy@aol.com (even though i have never checked this email account before!) - and used my old AIM password for this password.
3) open the email from apple and reset my password
4) go back to itunes and use the new password

finally worked! hope this was clear!

Thank you to all who posted before me! This just happened today to me moving into a Windows 7 laptop. My music purchased with my AOL ID would not play. I followed directions by snoozy, and reset my aol password and it worked! funny thing, Apple stored my old AOL ID password because I had changed it, adding to the confusion! so I followed Snoozy step 1, and then was taken to a password reset site, and was able to change my password right there. then I went back to iTunes, tried again, and it authorized that account! so now I have 2 Apple IDs, so what. THANK YOU. BTW I have received 4 emails from customer support, sending me in circles that made no sense. I finally Googled for help....should have done that to start with. whew!!!

You can get this problem solved!

I encountered this problem yesterday, when I tried to play some songs in my ITunes library on a new computer; this is an ITunes library that I had moved from my old computer.

I called Apple Support, and the excellent Tech person began looking into the problem.

Meanwhile, while I was waiting for him, I Googled the problem (which I should have done first): lots and lots of people (I discovered) have bumped into this same frustrating problem.

Yes: the problem arises when you move to a new computer with an ITunes library that includes songs you bought, way back when, using an AOL ID.

Apple Support contacted ITunes. And ITunes tracked down my AOL account, and then issued me (that is, me and Apple Support) a new Apple ID. There are two or three additional steps; they are not hard, but you need the combo of help from Apple Support and ITunes. The key thing is getting the new Apple ID, which you must have, and which, once it has done its work, you then can ignore..

I can now listen to everything--and I am signed in to ITunes using my current, usual Apple ID.

Note: All of this would be easier and simpler for us if we could actually speak to someone at ITunes; the only way we can get to a "live" person there is by contacting someone at Apple Support.
