Sony Bravia HDTV no recognizing my MBP

Hello!

I bought the Mini Display Port to HDMI Adapter for my MBP. Everything appears to be hooked up properly (MDPA into MBP, HDMI Cable into MDPA and HDMI Cable into HDTV); however my HDTV is not recognizing the signal from my MBP.

The MBP is recognizing the TV, but for some reason, the TV is not displaying the images on the MBP. I've tried toggling the mirroring option on and off with no success.

It would appear that the main problem is coming from the HDTV. I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40W5100. Has anyone else out there had a similar problem and if so could you please help in getting it fixed?

Thanks!

I've tried both. I've used both the input button at the top-right hand corner of the remote and I've also gone through the blue home menu button on the remote to select the HDMI port, and I always get the same response: "No signal. Check the external input or select another input using the INPUT button".

I have 4 HDMI ports on my tv. I've tried to hook it up on 3 of them and I'm always getting the same response. I tried just the HDMI cable on my DVD player and it works perfectly.

Yes, I've seen from other postings regarding this kind of similar topic that I'll have to get an audio cable too, but first I want to try and rectify this display problem.

I'm having this problem with my Sony Bravia (KDL-32S5100) and my Unibody MacBook. I purchased a Monoprice Male Mini DisplayPort to Male HDMI cable (basically an adapter and hdmi cable in one) to connect my mac to the tv. The computer knows it's connected to a Sony TV and the TV knows it has something connected to the HDMI port, but the TV says "No Signal." Yes, I checked the input and I'm on the right one for the HDMI port I have the computer plugged into. It's not a bad cable either. I went to Best Buy and they let me plug it into another brand of TV there and it worked right away. I wonder if it's some issue with Sony TV's specifically? I'd really like to get this figured out. Thanks for the help. Sorry to the original problem poster that a solution hasn't been presented.

I have the same problem, not with a Sony bravia but with LG 32LH3000 Full-HD Tv.
When i hook up my MBP to the LG, the MBP screen flashes blue for a few seconds, indicating that the connection is working. However, the MBP only recognizes the LG when the LG is turned off(standby mode). As soon as i turn on the LG, the MBP will lose the connection and "un-recognize" the LG, so i cannot display any pictures on the LG.

Has anyone else encountered this problem and possibly found a solution?

I use a mini display port to dvi adapter and a dvi-to hdmi cable, which is connected to the LG. The cable is ok, it worked with my mid-2007 MacBook.

If anyone could shed any light on this it would be fantastic.

I as well have the monoprice mini displayport to hdmi 6ft cable and am trying to hook up my macbook to a 40" sony bravia (KDL-40S504). I have verified that the hdmi inputs all work on the tv and that the monoprice adapter works on my ACER monitor HDMI input. But the TV just won't show anything, only shows "No Signal" on the correct HDMI input channel. The Sony TV shows in my display settings. I have tried a number of different resolutions and mirroring etc. to no avail.

I have been struggling with a similar problem all day. NOTHING worked, and the symptoms were like many of those in other messages in this thread. I did finally get this working, and what follows is what I did.

1. I am using a Macbook Pro, and also the mini-display to HDMI cable adapter (that is, the cable adapter is connected to an HDMI cable which then is what gets plugged in to the TV). For audio I have a audio cable ending in 2 RCA plugs (red-white) running from the earphone jack of the MBP into two audio input ports on the back of the HDTV.

2. Eventually I gave up, and turned everything off, and unplugged the cables. I shut down. I turned off the TV.

3. Plugged in the HDMI adapter with the HDMI cable to HDMI #1 on the TV (in my case that is on the rear of the TV) and plugged in the two (red/white) RCA plugs into the input ports nearest the HDMI #1 port. (no cables in the MBP at this point)

4. I turned the TV back on.

5. Started up the Macbook Pro

6. Plugged in the free end of the mini-display to HDMI cable to the MBP (the HDTV already had the plug inserted in port #1 at its end, as above). ( I did NOT connect the audio plug at this time).

7. I went and looked at the MBP display options and opened a window for each of the HDTV and the MBP displays. I could see the MBP display characteristics and those of the HDTV. [note: this might not really be necessary since you've probably already seen that the MBP is recognizing the two displays] I did it more out of trying to see what the MBP was doing, since the display itself had been blinking on and off at various times in other attempts.

8. I mirrored the displays.

9. Next I Scrolled through the TV's HDTV input options and selected the HDMI port for my input (#1 in my case).

10. Video came on almost immediately -- as I had expected when I first started hours ago. ( I've been led to believe that this is how it should have worked at the outset, but ...)

11. I then plugged in the audio cable to the MBP earphone port and then got my sound too.

Until that point I had consistently had both audio and video plugs inserted for output from the MBP. But, for some reason (in what would have been my final attempt for today) using only the HDMI video cables worked to produce a picture on the TV screen.

I don't have any technical understanding of the issues surrounding audio through the mini-display port and HDMI expecting audio in its data stream, but I wonder if in my case, the TV was 'confused' for some reason when it found no audio in the HDMI stream and yet was finding simultaneous audio input in the RCA connection. Only after the video display consistently reflected whatever the MBP was showing, did I plug in the audio cable to the headphone port. I did a test with a DVD and then a YouTube video and they all worked. The TV was happily showing the video and playing the sounds.

regards, and hope this helps in some way.

I know this is a late post to this ongoing discussion, but I suffered the same issues mentioned above (New 13-inch Macbook Pro w/10.6, Monoprice Mini-displayport to HDMI adapter, Sony Bravia 32m4000 HDTV, would get Invalid Format on Sony whenever I plugged everything in), read through all the various posts and was frustrated as well.
But, I resolved it last night by simply updating all my software to current, repairing permissions, plugged everything in and Presto--I'm in business. A couple key points: When you plug in your cables, your Mac desktop should flash blue as it's adjusting display settings, and then will probably be auto-adjusted to like 1024 x 768 or similar. You'll then need to go into display settings and select Mirror displays, and for me the screen flashed blue again and then came up correctly. You'll see in the display settings window for the TV an option to run at 720p or 1080i (or 1080p). My TV is 720 native, and so using that is the best option. Now whenever i plug everything back in it automatically adjusts to that setting.
Hope this helps and good luck.

I'm having the exact same problem as the original poster, except my TV is a Westinghouse. I've been trying to get it to work and researching new things to try for days with no success.
My mac is outputting 1366x768 to the tv, which is it's natural resolution, and it just says "Invalid format" at the top of a black screen. A couple random resolutions from the list would give me a screen of static with a little bit of my desktop peeking through at the top.
Any ideas? Explanations? Have the two potential solutions posted above worked for anyone else?
