Playing Radio Stations

When playing Radio Stations on ATV, the music will play for a while, 10 to 20 minutes, and then the ATV freezes and the music stops playing. At this point the ATV is completely frozen up. In a few more minutes, ATV will reboot and everything is fine, once again.
Are there any settings in my Airport Extreme Base Station that can be set differently to keep this from happening? Or, is this an issue with ATV?

Yes, ATV is set to 'Auto Sync'. I have the Airport Express set up as an extender to reach the 'far reaches' of our house. Also, the AE is connected, via ethernet cable, to an Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 is usually not turned on, if fact, never turned on, when I use the ATV.
Having the Xbox connected to the AE allows for connectivity with Xbox Live.

I understand your need for extending your range, i've not had great success with this set up but it should actually work, we can always return to this.

I do however have another thought which goes against the Apple implementation of this device, if you are willing to try it. Auto sync completely fills your drive with content, I've never thought this to be a good idea and think drives should only be filled to 90%. You might try a custom sync and leave some space free and try again.

You would be a guinea pig if you tried this.

Thanks for your help in this, Winston. I'm not a video collector so the ATV is only a little more than a third full.

My main use for the ATV is listening to music, and that is mainly limited to my private music collection of 45 GB's worth. The other purpose is for internet radio and our photos.

I haven't purchased/rented a movie from the iTunes Store, since last year, and that worked as advertised.

Tomorrow I'll unplug the AE, run ATV with a radio selection, and see what happens.

Yes, no point in changing your sync options under the circumstances. Only thing I can think of now is that your tv is being confused by signals from two wifi stations, as I said I didn't get that to work to well and eventually opted for wiring my wifi base stations to the DHCP server and setting them all up in bridge mode. Although I do still have my expresses set up for WDS, but I use them to connect an audio cable to a speaker system of some kind to utilise airtunes throughout my home.

FWIW, "My tv set up"

Don't know about that, it may be possible but it's beyond my immediate knowledge. Simply pulling the plug would suffice for diagnostics though.

Alright, I'll give a whirl in the morning.

Well, I unplugged the AE this morning and was able to listen to internet radio all day long, no freeze ups. That answers that question. It seems probable that ATV was 'jumping' from the AE to the AEBS, as suggested, and by unplugging the AE, the ATV now has a one solid connect point to our wireless network.

I can live with this arrangement, plugging the AE in, only when I need to use the Xbox. But, as a tech enthusiast, I would rather have a permanent solution. Connecting the Xbox, via ethernet cable, is out of the question. I may just have to pony up the $$ for Microsoft's USB wireless device.

I'll consider this issue "solved", for now Thanks for all of your help, Winston and Alley Cat!

Are you able to wire the x-box to the express and keep the express in range of the main base station. You could always set the express up as part of the WDS network as a remote station and turn off 'enable wireless clients'

Hi Winston, I'm sitting here thinking exactly the same thoughts. Yes, I connect the Xbox, via ethernet cable, to the AE. So you're saying that all I need to do is set up the AE as part of WDS and NOT enable wireless clients. Sounds like I need to check that out.

So nice to be able to listen to internet radio again, non-stop!
