I heard a lot of bad reviews of the speck case.

I'm looking for something hard that bascially will clip on, look nice and protect the case from scratches (i.e. will protect it from scratches but will also not scratch it - so hard plastic cases are a big no no). I found a nice clip-on leather hard case in a shop that fitted really perfectly, but they don't sell 15.4" anymore. I want the case to stay on during use. The Macbook pro metal scratches easily.

I have tried a soft case, but its quite floppy, falls off, and doesn't look nice.

These hard cases should be treated as an aesthetic addition only, and not an alternative to cautious transit. Any hard case is not going to bulletproof the notebook computer, or make it so much more significantly rugged that it will survive any fall. Screens have been known to break simply upon the force of impact given to inertia, or cables fray, or boards get loose if the inertia in the force of impact is significant and is transferred to the notebook.
Also if an optical disc is left in the drive, it can crash into the head of the optical drive with enough innertia. Yes, the hard drives have sudden motion sensor, and SSD drives exist for these notebooks. But I would not assume that because it is in a hard case that it is much more protected than if it is not.

That's pretty much it. Speck or Incase. There are tons of others but they're knockoffs and rarely worth the price.

I use Specks on all my MacBooks and Macbook Pros and have yet to have an issue. I see where people complained of lousy customer service but my most recent case purchased had a manufacturing defect. I sent email, they asked me to take a picture which I did. They confirmed the defect and sent me a new one the next day. They didn't waste my time or money to send the defective one back (which is actually quite usable in spite of the defect).

I have one on my MacBook Air and it's been working great. It snaps on easily and adds rigidity to the whole computer. Also, the rubber feet on the bottom are nice too. Keeps the computer from moving around in flight--especially if the pilot does a hammerhead stall or lands in a river. User uploaded file
