I just picked up a 27" iMac with the 1 T HD. I can hear the hard drive any time the computer is "working". Took the first one back to the Apple store and exchanged it, thinking I had a defective machine. The replacement makes the same noise.
Anyone else having this issue? Are these things supposed to be this noisy?
I don't think you need to freak out. I can't tell the percentages of the faulty units, of course, but intuitively it looks like this launch has less issues than some earlier ones.
I bought a new 27" iMac Core2Duo model and I have also this Seagate drive issue - it's sooo loud!
It's my 8th mac and it's the first one that has a hard drive that is louder then iTunes 😟
imracin68j, That's it. This is exactly what I'm getting with my NEW iMac 21.5".
I will be dropping it into the store for a replacement tomorrow.
I surely think that this is a fan noise.
Wait! Give Apple time to sort out its problems. Don't be part of their beta tester's group, just wait. How long? I'd give them six months at least. Good luck....
Mine grumbled, stopped for a couple weeks, and just a couple days ago... started up again. I have no idea why. I wonder if it has to do with physical position somehow.
