27" iMac hard drive noise

I just picked up a 27" iMac with the 1 T HD. I can hear the hard drive any time the computer is "working". Took the first one back to the Apple store and exchanged it, thinking I had a defective machine. The replacement makes the same noise.
Anyone else having this issue? Are these things supposed to be this noisy?

Have this model on my imac i7 27" (summer2010) :
Hitachi HDS722020ALA330
and i feel much noise 😟

Whoa!! Thank goodness!! I thought I was the only one, I just saw this thread. GOod to know people are having the same problem. And I am BUMMED!!! about this, it makes me want to take my iMac back.

tried the bartpe method with my Hitachi.
Useless; it was already set to silent…
tried to switch to noisy and tested it and it was actually more noisy…
but it was all useless..

@quist: yeah its a shame. I got a noisy hard drive and backlight bleeding, so highly considering just returning my iMac. The noise is very annoying and makes it hard to concentrate on my work...

The heat just kicked on in my house, the furnace fan is load enough to drown out the clicking noise, perhaps that will be apple's solution - cold weather .....

So...I bought mine early December here in Brasilia and I got the same problem. The noise is really terrible, plus the fact that Snow Leopard cannot find Windows 7 installed through the BootCamp ( despite the fact that bootcamp icon is there in the table...). I can't access it even pressing Option during the restart...What I should do?

I am having the same problem. How did you resolve. I am going to the store to exchange it for my 3rd IMac in 3 days. This is very frustrating.

Well people, Apple technical assistance here in Brasilia had to change the HD and the motherboard for brand new ones to solve the annoying internal "hungry stomach" sound. Now it is running like a jet!!! Wowwwwwwwwwwwww!!!
