iPod ejects as soon as it is connected - what can I do?

I NEED HELP! Every time I connect my iPod Classic to my computer, it automatically ejects within 30 seconds or less (usually less). I have removed and reinstalled iTunes on my computer, to no avail. Nothing will sync. Any ideas on what I can do?

I was at tearing my hair out stage with my 160gb Classic which suddenly stopped appearing in itunes about a fortnight before Christmas. Like everyone else on here, it would eject as soon as itunes opened up.
Anyway, it transpires that my problem was that, although I'd updated to the latest version of itunes, the firmware on the ipod itself had not been updated. I discovered this when I hit on the idea of connecting the ipod to my old laptop, which still had a much earlier version of itunes on. Sure enough, it showed up there and there was a prompt to update the ipod software. I did this and then connected it to mt current laptop and . . . hey presto! It appeaed, it synched and has been working fine ever since.

Hope this helps in some way 'cause I'd pretty much given up.

ok so what if u dont have the option to use another computer to update it? how can u do this without an older version available to u? i tried downgrading to one of the earlier versions but it wouldnt work it. i have an 80g classic, my battery is fully charged so that didnt work. im getting very frustrated with this and i do not want to have to buy a new one. any ideas on what i can do?

I think there is more one problem going on here.

When I run vids on my 160gb, the battery drains to about 1/2 - 2/3 capacity.

Plugging into iTunes 9.0.2, it immediately ejects.

So, I took the iPod to a machine without any version of iTunes.

The iPod connects and again immediately ejects.

The Windows System Event log shows an Event 51 - "An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk4\D during a paging operation."

Leaving it connected to the USB and charging, I attempted a reconnect after approx 30 minutes and this time it connected without any eject and the hard drive of the iPod was displayed in Explorer.

I then wrote and read back a file successfully.

For me, this eliminates any problems with iTunes, but indicates that the iPod firmware is signalling a disk error due to lack of power being detected in its battery.

I just had this happen to my iPod classic when connecting to a G5 tower. I'd rather not re-install or downgrade to iTunes 8, so I simply tried a different usb port and the problem didn't recur. What I've noticed, however, is that with iTunes 9.0.2, connecting the iPod to the computer via the usb hub I have will result in an immediate ejection of the iPod, though it still charges. Maybe trying a different usb port will work for others.

This is increadibly frustrating. My IPOD gave up on me just before going on holiday so I was without all music! Have uninstalled 9.0.2 and installed 8.2 instead but the problem persists. I try to charge it to full and then it works but only for a short while. Problem is that it doesn't work long enough for the IPOD to sync so it remains more or less empty. How can Apple NOT get a fix for this?!?! It's driving me nuts. Any help greatly appreciated.
