WindowShade by unsanity...
Window shade and FruitMenu by unsanity will not work in 10.6 ( yet ).

no. unsanity does some serious system hacking unsupported by apple. not many 3rd party developers engage in such things. as such all unsanity haxies are quite buggy and tend to destabilize the system. i would stay away from any of them altogether.
Try classic menu from sigsoftware.com - I'm now using that instead of FruitMenu - I'm giving up on unsanity, they take so long to update their haxies when Apple updates Mac OSX.
No replacement for windowshade though - I wish Apple would incorporate these functionalities into OS X - it's great, but they threw a lot of good stuff out with Classic

i resolved my windowshading issue rather crudely by hitting the F11 function key.
That way it brings me to the desktop.
It is odd about windowshade because if memory serves me Apple ripped that off some shareware in OS 7.5 and then they give it up in OS X.

All I've ever wanted Mac OS X to have "put back" into it from MacOS 9 days are the configurable Apple Menu, Window Shade, and to have the Finder windows come to the front when the Desktop is clicked upon. All simple things that once made the Mac a Mac at its heart. C'mon, please Apple, put 'em back in. Maybe as a 10.6.x point update?...
Its December 28th, 2009 and still no indication that unsanity is coming out with a 106 version of WindowShade.
Count me in with macmidiguy in really missing this feature. I use it so much that it was one of the reasons that I actually delayed updating from 10.4, but I've now taken the plunge out of necessity. Sure there are some nice Snow Leopard features, but as always with an upgrade - Apple gives some and takes some.
So to repeat the original question from this post, does anyone have a WindowShade substitute yet? None of the wizzy 10.6 features work for me.

Can anyone explain WHY Apple wouldn't have this in there? I'm glad they are happy with their stacks and their genie stuff in the dock but its WAY TOO PC for me. I like having my windows where I put them. I like to minimize them. so I know where they are at. When I go back to them I want them where I left them. I didn't put them down in the bottom.
Anyways, I was a WindowShade user. I would love to see window shading added back in as a "classic" Mac user, it would be a nice touch if Apple could drop that back in there as a choice for us who liked having it.

Just dittoing the plea to Apple to put Windowshade back into the OS. I love it, and I miss it. Unsanity is useless--they don't even update their blog, let alone their software.
