Time remaining: Calculating.... but no indication of time yet after +30m

I want to backup from TC, using SL DVD.
I selected the backup I need, it starts "restoring"... below it says: Restoring files (0.0%)...
Time remaining: Calculating...

How hard can it be?
He is doing so since more then 30 min. Is this normal procedure?
We are talking about a 70GB restore...
Just be patient? Or is there a way to find out if something got stuck?

Merci!

pretty much.

restoring from a TC sparsebundle includes a lot of calculating

definitely, yes !!

not while this is in progress. it may take over night. just let it run its course, amigo User uploaded file

Jolly,... finally it started restoring, but then it freezes when it did 7,6% (on Macbook Pro).

sorry to hear that User uploaded file

After 12 hours, I looked on the iMac what is going on with TC and it can't be found...and this is happening the whole time.

do you restore wirelessly ? if so, try again but before you start turn off airport and run an ethernet cable from the TC to your Mac

TC just isn't to be trusted.

you mean +time machine+, but yes, many say that

Any real solution for this?

well, it may be no help to you but i see TM only as a part of my backup strategy. i make bootable clones of my startup disk regularly. you could use e.g. Carbon Copy Cloner do that. a bootable clone is the safest and most trustable backup solution.

try again as per my suggestion above with an ethernet cable.

good luck !

Hello again, and muchas gracias for your time...
If you want to restore from Time Capsule, the SL DVD will ask you to connect the airport..

you can try this: just install a fresh SL without migrating anything from the TC. you can use +migration assistant+ (in your applications > utilities folder) at any time after the installation is complete. at the time, turn airport off and just run the ethernet cable from the TC to your Mac

I will have a look at this Carbon Copy Cloner

Vielen dank

de nada 😉

Problems:
TC not appearing on my desktop or sidebar, it does give WIFI to iPhone and macs.
TC Not appearing on Airport Utility.
Sometimes when trying to access on TC through one of the macs, it will say, that there is something wrong with the IP adress
But then after resetting (lot's of times I have been doing so) it will appear
I also can't seem to run disk utility on the TC, I suppose I should take out a bundle open it and drag and drop on the sidebar of disk utility...right? Well does not happen... my disk utility freezes... also plenty of times my finder freezes... and showing error 10810... lots of people on this forum complain about the latest SL... I guess I am also having the same problem.

try a +factory restore+. pull the TC's plug from power, stick a pointy object into the reset button in the back and plug the TC back to power (while keeping the reset button pressed) until the status light flashes amber rapidly.

you will have to set the TC up from scratch but the factory restore may cure your issue

I also can't seem to run disk utility on the TC,

no, that won't work anyways. the TC's HD is a networked disk, unaccessible by DU.

I suppose I should take out a bundle open it and drag and drop on the sidebar of disk utility...right?

not with DU but you might be able to repair the sparsebundle with +disk warrior+ (a pricy but useful tool). if you decide to get disk warrior, be sure you get the SL compatible version (4.2)

Well does not happen... my disk utility freezes... also plenty of times my finder freezes... and showing error 10810... lots of people on this forum complain about the latest SL... I guess I am also having the same problem.

yes, let's of folks have problems with SL, but not the majority. remember, this forum is for people with issues. the majority +does not+ post here because they have no issues - just like me.

when your TC is up and running again, download and install the Time Machine Buddy.

also, read Time Machine - Troubleshooting and Time Machine FAQ

post back with results !

Here Bart again 😉

well, I tried resetting, exactly as you told me.
Now I have a flashin amber light.
Airport Utility shows me the TC in sidebar with amber light.
I want to select the TC in this sidebar, so it starts reading the configuration... but does not read anything and tells me that maybe TC is not connected...
I have it connected with ethernet cable into my mac.
I also have the router connected to the TC.

hold on amigo ! you have router ?? is that a wireless router or do you mean a simple cable modem ?

if you have a wireless router, chances are your TC simply cannot connect to it wirelessly. you would have to run an ethernet cable from one of the routers LAN ports to the TC's WAN port and set the TC up in +bridge mode+.

please clarify if your have router or a modem !
