Importing video into iMovie

I am trying to import HD video from my Sanyo Xacti video camera into iMovie but several seconds of the video are cut off for each video I try to import. Most recently I tried to import a two minute video an almost 1 minute was not imported. Any ideas why this keeps happening. Thanks.

I've been doing the same thing for the past two hours... it only imports 1/2 of the length of the clip. I shot everything in HD, not iFrame, and I cannot figure anything out. Hopefully someone will know the answer... one of the reasons I bought the xacti was it's compatibility to Mac and iMovie.

I used to have the Xacti HD2 and just tried to import the old video files and it all came in correctly , but the older one was only 720p. Try setting a lower res if you can to see if it comes in then.

I saw several YouTube videos made from the Sanyo Xacti and really liked the thing (this was after I bought my little Sony), but then I checked the compatibility chart and did not see the Xacti on that list.

I hope that there is something that can be done, because that is a great little camcorder you have there, and for a very good price. And it takes still shots with more megapixels than does my Sony Tg5v.

I wish you much luck in this, Chris.

There are a couple of Sanyo Xacti cameras on the supported list but I don't understand why they all are not.
They all record in mpeg-4 and are perfectly compatible with iMovie.
I have 3 of these cameras of varying ages and have had no difficulty with any of them.
However reading the above posts I agree with wwelbon.
I only use the SHQ setting on my HD Xactis: 1280 x 720 at 30fps.
With that setting you will never have an import problem.

I am having precisely (or should I say xacti !!) the same problem with my Sanyo Xacti VH1. Only half of each clip is imported. Some of the clips have been 60fps and others at 30fps. This problem happens both when importing via the sd card slot and connecting the camcorder to the mac. I can import the full clips by saving them onto the desktop then importing the files- this work but is very time consuming.
Strangely the import of the full clips worked when I tried this at the Apple Shop on and identically specced computer. I will go to see them with my machine this weekend to try and solve this problem - will let you know if any success.

I am also having the same issue, where imovie imports only half of the clip. I have tried importing from the camera, from the SD card reader, and off a saved copy on the hard drive. When copied to the hard drive, the aspect ratio comes in odd, and I still have an issue with the clip length. The camcorder I am using is a Samsung HD. This is an interesting problem, and I like the notion of 60 fps vs. 30 fps as causing an import issue. On the import screen, the software says it has imported the full time length (i.e. 30 seconds) however when looked at in imovie, it only says 15 seconds. My point in saying that is that it seems like it's a frame counting issue. Will keep trying and hope somebody comes up with a solution.
