iTunes LP Issue

As of 30 minutes ago I downloaded my first iTunes LP, John Mayer's Battle Studies to check out what iTunes LP was all about. I like to convert my songs down to 128kbps after buying them because I don't have much room on my 8GB iPhone so I did my normal routine and converted the files and moved the originals to the trash (I created a brand new folder for them after this issue was discovered so they are not permanently deleted. Anyway on the John Mayer LP you can play the songs and album from inside the iTunes LP (with the original files) however it will not play the converted files from within the LP. Is there a way to fix this? I paid 14 dollars for this thing so I want to get my money's worth out of it but I don't want to use the original files because they are larger and my iPhone will not be able to fit them on its storage because I literally only have a few megabytes left on the thing. So if anyone knows how to get the iTunes LP to recognize the converted songs I'd much appreciate it. Thank You in advance for the help.

Depending on your import settings what will probably have happend is that iTunes created new smaller files with a traliing " 1" so that the folder looked something like this:

01 Heartbreak Warfare.m4a
01 Heartbreak Warfare 1.m4a
02 All We Ever Do Is Say Goodbye.m4a
02 All We Ever Do Is Say Goodbye 1.m4a
etc.

If you've moved the longer files to a backup folder and then deleted the entries in iTunes the "LP" software may not be linking to the files properly. That said I've been able to update the filenames in my PC's version of Muse's The Resistance. If I recall correctly in my case I moved & renamed the files and then relinked iTunes to each "missing" file one by one.

If you have the album playing properly in iTunes however, the other approach that might work is to delete the entry for the iTunes LP and then add it back again. This may get the LP to redetect the correct track to associate with each link in the LP.
