iPhone doesn't show up in iPhoto

Hey,

My iPhone (3G, 3.1.2) doesn't show up in iPhoto (v. 6.0.6) when I connect it. It shows up and syncs with iTunes fine, but it doesn't launch iPhoto (like it used to) and when I manually launch iPhoto, it's not there.

(I just got my computer (MBP, 10.4.11) back from Apple Care where they replaced the main logic board, if that's relevant. There have been a few random settings changes I've noticed since then.)

Thanks!

Mac Book Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.11), iPhone - 3G, OS 3.1.2

I have the exact problem as well. My iphone connects just fine to iphoto, but my wife's iphone now will not. I have a macbook pro and she has a macbook. My iphone connects to iphoto as advertised on both computers, and her iphone will not connect to iphoto on either computer. Both iphones connect ok with itunes on both computers. Her camera roll has only pics she has taken on the iphone. Other pics are on other albums. Image capture is no help: "no device connected." Help.

That is really funny in a sick way, it says the question is answered! No, the question is NOT answered and I for one would really like an answer rather than a cheesy work around. When your iPhone works fine with iTunes and iPhoto for a year, then no longer works with iPhoto (or syncs the new photos), the problem is NOT FIXED. Come on Apple there is a glich in the system somewhere. Please find it and fix it for us.

A possible cause for this issue. .gif files My friend whom I am weaning off of windows and is using my old imac did a sync yesterday with his 3gs to iphoto and all was well. He downloaded a few pics today and now the phone was not showing up in iphoto but was in itunes. In frustration he called me and was naturally complaining. I found in the possible answers on the forms that if you deleted downloaded pics it would work fine. He deleted the two pictures that where the .gif files that he had downloaded and all is well again.

I'm having the same problem where iphoto (and image capture, everything up-to-date) does not recognize my iphone (I have the first version of the iphone, a silverback). I have a new MacBook Pro, although I can't recall if this problem only started happening when I got it - it really could have. I am not a fan of these patch jobs and would like an actual solution. Thanks.

The solution is for Apple to fix the bug. The workaround until they do is to email any pictures in the Camera Roll not taken with the iPhone camera to yourself, then delete them. This workaround will allow you to connected to your favorite photo app again. It's not great, but it's the only answer other than waiting for a hoped-for fix.

BTW, occasionally photos taken with the iPhone camera can show this symptom also. The workaround is the same.

I had the same problem until just now. After reading the responses, I checked the 400 photos on Camera Roll..... and yes, there was a measly little 40k image I had saved to camera roll from and e-mail attachment. After deleting culprit image from Camera Roll and reattaching the iPhone to the Mac, the iPhone showed up in iPhoto and images were downloaded without problem. I'm quite relieved!

Will Apple provide an alert on this problem?

Another sub-optimal "solution":
There's a neat program called PhoneView that lets you access your iPhone's info over USB. Unlike Diskaid and Iphone Explorer, it shows your music, contacts, bookmarks, photos, etc in a user friendly format.
You can select and drag your photos to your computer.
There's even a "send to iPhoto" button.
Of course, we shouldn't have to buy a third party program fix Apple's mistakes, but it's an option and is a very useful program for other reasons as well.
