My iPhone (3G, 3.1.2) doesn't show up in iPhoto (v. 6.0.6) when I connect it. It shows up and syncs with iTunes fine, but it doesn't launch iPhoto (like it used to) and when I manually launch iPhoto, it's not there.
(I just got my computer (MBP, 10.4.11) back from Apple Care where they replaced the main logic board, if that's relevant. There have been a few random settings changes I've noticed since then.)
Thanks!

I was having the same problem and came to this forum looking for a solution. I didn't find one on this site, but after doing my own tinkerning, I got my iPhone 3GS to show up in iPhoto.
Here's how,
Open iTunes and make sure you can see your iPhone (I'm assuming most of you can see your iPhone in iTunes since that isn't the issue),
Select your iPhone from the left-hand sidebar and,
Open the 'Photos' tab at the top of the main content window,
Go back into iPhoto,
See if your iPhone shows up, roughly 5 – 10 seconds after you've clicked the Photos tab.
Disclaimer.
I should also note that I completed the following tasks before I even opened up iTunes and clicked the Photos tab. The reason I didn't include in the solution is because I don't think these tasks were responsible for the solution occurring.
Ran Software Update on Mac/iPhone,
Shut off iPhone and Mac,
Turned devices back on and plugged in USB after Mac/iPhone were fully loaded and iPhoto was open.
I've been having the same problem. Itunes sees it... iphoto doesn't. I left iphoto open for more than 2 minutes (with the iphone connected) and the phone eventually popped up. Weird. There's some kind of serious lag happening.
I have an iPhone 3g and an iMac ,and after doing the update iPhoto was not working. I read through these threads and looked at all the photos on my phone (over 1000). I deleted some graphics I had saved from websites (weren't really pictures I had taken) - as soon as I connected the phone again, iPhoto recognized it.
It worked for me - so it might work for you instead of having to restore your iPhone! Goodluck!!
I had looked and tried every other method but this was THE solution that solved all my misery!
The problem is fixed for me by deleting a few pictures that I have either downloaded off safari or someone else has sent me from their computers.
For some reason iphoto, or image capture, doesn't like pictures that aren't in a specific format that has been taken from an imaging device. Which is why it didn't recognise it in the first place.
Now after deleting the extraneous photos and plugging in my iPhone again it worked in iPhoto and now I've transferred all my photos without problem.
In my situation I know that I restored a previous backup of my phone which loaded photos that were already transferred into iPhoto. When I deleted these photos that had already been transferred and reconnect my iPhone the problem is solved.
I think all the solutions offered feel like weird hacks. I agree this thread shouldn't be considered answered. You shouldn't have to delete any images, or bounce between itunes to have your iphone show up in iPhoto. Anyone know if this is being solved?
The way I got it to work was by opening the photo tab in itunes, then return to iPhoto, and sometimes your iPhone will appear.
I'm not sure whether this is the same problem as others in the thread, but my daughter has a 2G phone and a Mac computer. She has never had a problem downloading photos into iPhoto until now. When she plugs in the iPhone to the Mac normally it downloads the photos automatically. The last time it didn't show the latest photos at all. Any suggestions? I have a PC so I'm not very up to speed with Macs.
Nope, deleting photos does not work for me. Come on Apple, it has been over 7 months now and not a single technical comment on what seems like should be a simple fix inside the software. Give me a break! We need a fix.. six months ago, not six months from now. This is ridiculous.
I know that installing a third party app is not really a solution offered by Apple, but as "Liam's mom" pointed out before, the PhotoToMac app makes it possible to transfer Camera Roll photos to your Mac over WiFi (also in the situation where iPhoto no longer recognizes your iPhone).
Note that I'm the developer of the PhotoToMac app, but users have reported to me that Apple support representatives have recommended PhotoToMac as a solution for the above described issue.
Hummm, I'm agree with you. I had the same problem 7 month ago, and I solve it by deleting few pictures from my iPhone 3GS 16Go. Especially one picture from an email received from a friend. But just today, my iPhone doesn't be recognize by iPhoto again !! Deleting pictures don't works this time.
This problem's happen to many friends of mine. Apple, Wake Up. Fix this bug, please !!
Hi, my iPhone comes back to iPhoto. How ? I've deleted one picture witch came from an email. After that, I've disconnected and reconnected the iPhone with its USB cable, and... ta da... It is here again in iPhoto. Yessss, I'm too strong. Life 's beautiful. If this is helpful for you, enjoy.
Have a nice day.
