Typing shift + Option + k doesn't produce apple symbol?

This may seem trivial, but I am unable to type the apple symbol. (I like to use the apple symbol in folder names for organizational purposes.) I can see the symbol in the keyboard viewer as shift + option + k, but when I type that key combination, nothing happens in word, text edit or finder names.

I found this previous thread
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1338971&stqc=true
and tried the solution there, but no luck.

Any help?

Ian,

I can't say the last time I used this key combination. It could have been with a previous version of OS X or even on my previous PB G4 1.67Ghz model. My present workaround is to simply copy and paste the symbol from folder or file names.

Just wondered if it was still possible to reproduce the Apple logo as a keyboard character under the present system software, either Leopard or Snow Leopard.

try shift / option / +

Does your Keyboard Viewer indicate your keyboard with the combination of
keys suggested, will do anything at all given the keys in the correct order?

You can activate the Keyboard Viewer so it will appear in the menu bar;
and also could activate to use Character Palette, in the same location.

If the keyboard in use cannot provide the indicated results, there is a defect.
And in some applications, the Apple icon does not appear at all.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

Exactly, it's shift-option-k, not shift-option-+.

as i mentioned earlier, i am using German layout keyboards. on those, it works exactly as i proposed in my previous (edited) post.

so, apparently it's different on your keyboard. and, as Niel suggested, it may not be supported with all fonts.

what about getting a beer or two now, eh ? User uploaded file

Well, I was using a wireless bluetooth apple keyboard and wasn't getting the results.
I did have the keyboard viewer activated as suggested by K Shaffer, but no joy.
Restarted the computer, tried the built in keyboard on my MB Pro and viola, the shift + option + k gives me the apple symbol! It also works on the wireless apple keyboard now. Perhaps the restart was all that was necessary. Hmm...
