I have a iPhone 3GS 8GB, I don't know how its 8GB, it has all the same function that a 3GS should. I'm on version 3.0.1 on my iPhone and I tried updating to 3.1.2 by clicking the update button, NOT restore. After extracting software, it goes verifying, then it says, iphone is not eligible for the requested build. I"m on itunes 9. Anyone know what the problem is? My iphone has 6.77GB but it says 16GB on the back.
How long were you aware that it is not 16GB? Where did you buy it from? Why don't you take it back? therte is a fre app in the app store. called diskspace. Install this and see what it says. Probably no difference if it is really 8GB.
I just bought it from my friend and he bought from someone else. I got it today and the back cover material is matte, not the glossy original black back cover. I suspect its a 3G iPhone that was hacked to be like an iPhone 3GS but I doubt that since I tried updating and restoring it and when I looked it up, it said iPhone 3GS cant be restored in 3.0.1.
Original iPhone = 4 GB or 8GB
iPhone 3G = 8GB or 16 GB
iPhone 3GS = 16 GB or 32 GB
My guess is it's a knock-off, because of iTunes saying that it is not eligible for the requested build. That doesn't usually happen unless you are manually directing iTunes to the wrong firmware file. On 3.1.2, a 16 GB should say that the capacity is 14.3 GB.
I found this site where you put in your serial number and it shows you the specs. I put in my serial number and it said 16GB iPhone 3GS Model A1303. That model number is on my matte back cover. I put in my other friends serial numbers and it comes out too. It says Serial confirmed. O.o I don't know if the serial shows it's legitness or something? Try your serial number on this site -
Is this a matte black back cover that is plastic? Or is it a metal cover and silver?
If it is a matte black plastic cover it is a knock-off that has used a fraudulent serial number. If you use discspace, along with the settings on the iPhone itself, and it shows the capacity you are currently seeing it is obviously not a 16GB iPhone.
