Internet connection lost after sleep - Ethernet

I have just started using a new router (a Linksys). My problem is that after the iMac comes out of sleep I cannot get an internet connection using ethernet. It is not the router, a PC connected at the same time does not lose its connection and the internet light on the router stays lit.

When I lose the connection I cannot access the router's web page @ 192.168.1.1. The admin login box appears but with a name that relates to a previous router I used. I assume that this is part of the problem.

Any ideas?

MacDude123's solution seems to the fix for me. What is interesting is after updating my 27"iMac, 10.6.2 with a graphic tweek the problem started immediately.....that's part I don't get. But what works for me is going back to the last thing done and work from there, and thanks to MacDude123 I've moved on.

"Open system pref>>Network>>Click on your ethernet connection>> on this screen there is a small gear symbol with a down arrow>> click this and Click on Set Service Order>>Make sure Ethernet is first on this list (in my case since I have a wireless connection I clicked Airport)>>>It worked for me hope it works for you."

Hi there,

My problem is solved. First I had an very old and cheap router, don't know why the problem occured, secondly I had an older type Airport Extreme (802.11g version) which seemed to have the same problem, but I later found out that the signalpower was set to 10% of it's total, after setting this back to 100% there wasn't any problem any more, so it just was the distance.

Now I bought an all new Airport Extreme and it works perfectly, so no fabric faults at my machine luckily.

I had this problem a while ago and thought I'd cleared it up, but it has now returned. I have an early 2008 24in iMac (3.06Ghz) and a late 2007 15in MacBook Pro (2.5Ghz). The problem is intermittent and only happens on the iMac which is a wired ethernet connection to a BT HomeHub 2. It isn't necessarily a sleep related problem, it can happen at any time. iPhone wireless connection is not affected either.

So far my only fix has been to reboot, but have tried turning off IPv6 setting as recommended in some of these posts and so far so good. Will update this post after more time/tests.

Made the changes as per Quentin's recommendations and so far so good, after about 24hours I've not yet had a dropped signal. I'm not sure if its genuine, but internet access through Safari does seem a bit sluggish now. Could just be an ISP glitch. Will continue to monitor over next few hours/days.

It really would be useful to get this issue cleared up properly however. I use ShareTool to connect with my iMac remotely, and if there's a problem with the remote machine dropping the connection I'm scuppered (I was wondering if ShareTool was the cause of the problem but have ruled it out after a number of tests).

Hopefully this will my last post on this subject as I've now been running normally for a couple of days/nights without any mishap. It appears that the key to solving this for me has been the manual configuration of the Ethernet settings on the advanced options of Network setting for Ethernet adaptor, as I re-enabled the Energy Saver/Wake for Network Access setting and everything still worked fine.

With regards to my concern about internet access speed, this seems to have been down to normal network and bandwidth overload at the time rather than a systemic problem. I just ran a speed test and got figures of 6.27/0.36 Mbps download/upload which is at the top end of my ISP providers capability for my local exchange.

Hope others suffering from this problem also get it resolved, and thanks for all the suggestions.

And it's just died again. I'm beginning to think it's maybe something to do with iTunes. Maybe Home sharing ?

Trouble is that the whole environment is unstable, although more stable than other environments! 10.6.x still needs to settle down, and let 3rd party developers have time to breathe. Too many upgrades/updates...? Too many variables to deal with as a user who just wants to get on with stuff. I don't want to have to write test scripts at home...

Revert back to previous energy saving setting and see what happens, but still happier lasting three or four days between reboots than three to four hours...

I too am loosing the network when my mac has woken from its sleep. I have it connected via cable to a Belkin router which is working fine.

I have to do this as well. Although it is quick, its still annoying to have to do it. I hope that its a software issue that can be fixed via an update. Other than this issue I am very happy with my first mac.

I had this problem at the beginning of the month with my new iMac 27". It stopped for 16 glorious days after downloading and separately installing AirPort Client Update 2009-002. Today I was prompted to download and install a Bonjour update that was meant to address instability between iTunes and AppleTV. This may be pure coincidence, but after installing this update I began to experience the lost internet connection problem again. This is very frustrating but I am coming to the conclusion that it is more an iTunes/Apple TV problem than an Airport issue.
