Very slow bootup

So I have been waiting for almost 10 minutes now on my third attempt to boot up mac but all I see is the apple icon and the loading sign. Whats wrong with it? I can boot up windows fine with bootcamp but mac os seems to be loading forever.

iMac 21.5", Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Sorry I wasn't able to come up with a solution, the OS X Installation disc would be disc 1 btw but I'm sure you figured that out.

Having just been through the same problem, it turned out, surprisingly, that it was my hard drive. Once that was replaced I have a perfect machine again. The symptoms were not the classis clicking, just all sorts of weird stuff, inability to boot past the spinning gear, a grey start screen with a grey progress indicator that never completed and then the spinning gear. So don't be surprised when you take t in if they tell you it's your drive.
