Connecting iMac to HDTV

I'd like to connect my iMac to our new HDTV and purchased an HDMI cable to do this. However, now I see there is no place to plug that cable into my computer. What additional cable connector do I need to make this connection?

20" Intel Core 2 Duo; iBook G4; iMac-flat, Mac OS X (10.6.2), Duo 2GB ram; HP 7410 wireless AIO printer

OK, baseball season is here, and I'm ready to use this set-up. I bought all the cables that people recommended above and have them connected, but the TV shows NO SIGNAL, even though I set it on the lighted HDMI slot where the cable is connected. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong to not get any signal? Game's on tonight, and we'd like to watch it on the TV rather than the iMac, if possible.

Edit: I can't edit the display so that it is extended rather than mirror. I get the message that there is only one display. I can set the screen iMac resolution to 1920x1200.

Hi Joanne,

Did you ever find a solution to this problem?

I'm having a similar problem at this discussion:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2456882&stqc=true

I have a 24" IMac dual 3.06 (early 2008). This came with an outlet in the back that needed a Mini-DVI to HDMI cable.

Apple decided to discontinue this IMac with that "plug", and never even manufactured the wire adapter!

Anyway, I can't get my Imac to work with my 32" Sony Bravia HDTV.

What did work was a wire that was a DVI with a VGA adapter. USed with a 10 foot extension from the Imac to a monitor, that worked at the Apple store on a second Apple laptop used as a monitor.

If you've solved you're problem please inform me.

Otherwise, I may just forget the mini-DVI to HDMI adapter with the 10 foot HDMI wire, and try the other route.

Thanks,

Hello,
I am having similar problems. I have a 20" intel imac and am hooking it up to a 32" toshiba hdtv monitor. Used a MiniDVI to HDMI adapter, 25' HDMI cable and a 25' sound cable. It all worked last night/ Today, nothing but a blue screen on my HDTV monitor. Any ideas why this would work once but not again. I've tried unplugging and pluging in several times and still no desktop on my tv. Worked fine last night. Any ideas?
