Buying a Macbook Pro on craigslist

I'm in the market for a used Macbook Pro w/Logic Pro or Logic Studio pre-installed.
I've asked one seller to meet at the Apple Store to have it checked out first during Genius Bar appt.
He agreed but stated that the software would have to be added after the appt.
When asked why, he stated that he didn't want Apple to see it.
Is this reason for skepticism?

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.7), No firewire

Yes. It means it's illegally obtained software (and possibly hardware.)

I doubt that the Apple Store will do what you think they will do. And, even if they do check it out for you most likely you will be charged the minimum rate for service.

yes. and if he is preinstalling this software he has to provide the original install disks for that software along with the computer when he sells it. otherwise that would be illegal and might be the reason he doesn't want to do it.

Just to point out that not all software comes with "original install disks" and there is no federal law that requires that they be included with a license transfer.

The software mentioned in this topic does come on installation DVDs, so V.K.'s information is accurate. I believe most "Professional" software comes on DVDs.

But that may and sometimes is a requirement of the license transfer just as the license registration must go with the media transfer. Depends on what's written in the software license. So it need not be stipulated in any Federal regulation.
