Contact missing in contact listing

hi, i have recently switched to the iphone 3gs (formerly used the 3g) and have a problem with contacts created on the iphone (sw 3.1.2).

when i create a contact on the iphone (from the number field) it does not show up in my contact list (this was not the case on my 3g phone). when i search the phone with spotlight the contact is there (with the label contact) - but still not in my contact list. i have tried the same thing on another iphone (also 3gs) and it works perfectly fine (we both use the same mail server to sync - ms exchange).

is there any setting where i can define the default storage of new contacts? does anybody experience the same problem?

Same issue here. At first I thought it was a sync issue, and wasted a ton of time fooling with that. Then I realized that using the "Create New Contact" option from a phone number did not add that contact to "Contacts" on the iPhone, therefore, it never syncs with Address Book or Mobile Me. The only work around appears to be to create the contact directly in "Contacts," then it shows up in "Contacts," and syncs to Address Book and Mobile Me.

To have a"Create New Contact" option that doesn't work is a pretty stupid bug.

I've been using Google Sync for my contacts and have been running into the same problem.

Upon poking around some more, I noticed that I have two Groups when I open up the Contacts app: my Google acct and "All from My Mac." Don't know how to merge the two, but here's I got my new contacts to save to Google:

1. Open Settings app
2. Go to Mail,Calendar,Contacts
3. Scroll down to the Contacts block and set Default account to my Google account.
