I'll be getting a 17" Powerbook soon and am curious about a suitable carrying case. I have narrowed it down to the Chrome Kremlin Bike Messenger Bag and the Crumpler Cashmere Blazer Messenger Bag. Both say that they accomodate 17" laptops but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about these or other cases? I am a graduate student so I need to carry my entire life with me. thanks.

I own the Brenthaven backpack style carrying case. I love it, but if backpacks arent for you I would still stay with Brenthaven but go for more of a briefcase style.
I have a Zero Halliburton 4" case.
I, too, use a Benthaven backpack and highly recommend it. While rather pricey, it's quality is impeccable, and it's level of protection is about as good as it gets for a soft bag. Really nice amount of room for accessories, too. Brenthaven is definitely worth checking out, whether the backpack or the shoulder bag.
I use a Brenthaven shoulder bag for my 17" PB. I love it. It has plenty of room and numerous other pockets for accessories. It also has plenty of padding (protection) to keep the PB safe.
Measly Little,
Check out the Timbu2 messenger bags. They are great. Good protection with lots of storage with out the bulk. I got mine about a year ago and love it. I looked at a lot of bags. Ther are a bunch that are just cheap, lots of plastic clips and all of them were very bulky. Kind of takes away from having a slim laptop...

I'd go with the Brenthaven case also.
I've had the backpack for a while and it's held up great on several trips... almost all the way around the world.

I got the Benthaven backpack as well for my new 17" and I am very pleased. Much better than my old Crumpler backpack for the 15". It might not look as 'cool' as some of the Crumpler bags, but the laptop is protected better and it is more functional.
I was wondering if benthaven got a web site that i could have a look, thanks.
I suggest the timbuk2 bags made to fit the 17" powerbook. theyre a little pricey but are practically indestructible, look super cool and fit my powerbook in a cozy little corduroy pocket. i highly recommend all the timbuk2 messenger bags. 🙂 here's a link:

they have other options and bag types as well. 🙂 you can also find them on ebay off and on and save some cash. 🙂

I certainly don't know if it's the 'best' - but i like my targus backpack a lot - it's ULTRA comfortable and not ugly, like many of the bags - and like a lot of the others, it absolutely does not look like a computer bag, which for security reasons is great.

I've had mine for 4 years and it's still in great shape - wonderfully made and very comfortable. Peace.

I use the stm Large Loop and like it a lot. It holds lots of things while not looking too bulky or weight too much. It gives good support and protection to the 17" powerbook. I got it at school for $79.

I got a Brenthaven shoulder bag when I bought my 17" almost three years ago. It's good and offers lots of space for other things (such as your life...). You also can remove the computer sleeve if you need to carry just the PB around. You can also use the sleeve to put the PB in a bigger bag.
But my handsdown fave bag is the Incase Sling Pack I bought recently. I LOVE it. Not as big as the Brenthaven, but extremely well designed, looks good, can carry what you need. I use it every day - with or without the PB in it.

Anyone ever use or consider the cases made by pelican cases? Not sure if they make one large enough to accomodate the 17" and its ac adapter.
The Benthaven are great bags....but at a steep price....you cannot get one bag for all purposes....I have a Kensington Contour....has all the storage you need for all your Pb 17 Accessories and peripherals....well made....at half the price...When I take it to the airport I wish it had wheels or Back pack....so by a backpack and a Kensington...both for the price of one Benthaven
