Canon 7D and mRAW and sRAW

Hasn't happened for the 5D2 so I doubt you'll see it for 7D.

I will trade my 40D and Rebel XT for your 7D if you want to shoot lower res RAW

I would also like to know if this is going to happen as I'd like to use mRAW and sRAW for longer trips.
In the meantime, I suppose I can use DPP to read the files and then export them to JPG and then import them into Aperture. Kind of a pain... and I guess I might as well just shoot JPG if I'm going to be doing that!

True, you might as well use JPEG if you're gonna do that 😉

Really, mRAW and sRAW are not true RAW files, there are numbers of issues.

As far as "If it's going to happen," Apple rarely comments on futures so all you know is that it's not there right now.

I can now import my RAW images from the 7d and they display in Aperture. Main issue is they are tiny in size. The image in the main viewer is about 4"x3" even in full screen mode, little more than the thumbnails. I've rebooted but no different. I've been converting to DNG using Adobe Converter then importing to Aperture up until now. Looks like that's still the only option for me. Anyone else hit this issue with Apples attempt to support the 7D?

Solved it. Hadn't restarted Aperture before importing the latest images. Aperture only supports 7D images imported after it is upgraded. Any images there from before need to be exported then re-imported again.

While I don't use Aperture (yet?) I'm glad to see the recently published Software Update (regarding camera support, including Canon 7D RAW, as I just upgraded to this camera model today) has given me back my icon-previews of Canon CR2 files in Finder windows tonite! (And as Roddy mentioned, similar with Aperture, the icon/thumbnail previews only appear for my Canon 7D CR2 files imported to the Mac after the Software Update.)

Incorrect. You can use the "Migrate Images" command on the 7D images and they will be re-rendered without requiring an export and re-import.

May be unnecessary. Next time I fired up the Mac, the thumbnails of those earlier imports, automatically showed as image icons.

Aperture 3 was released today, and appears to support both mRAW and sRAW. You may want to download the 30-day demo and find out.

On the Aperture 3 supported formats page under Canon it does say "sRAW" and "mRAW" now.

I tested it on my 7D and it does indeed work!

I've found that while Aperture does import the mRAW files it does not seem to apply any of the necessary RAW fine tuning and as a result the images look awful. The fringing I've been seeing on some of the images is a direct result of the way Aperture is handling the format.

Raw files, by definition should be shown as an image with no processing applied. But then you would not see anything. So a really poor looking image could just mean that your other application does more twiddeling with the raw file than Aperture in order for it to be visible.
Set up your own Raw Image Standard/Datum Point; Import a typical raw file. Apply the adjustments to get to what you think the image should look. When it is to your liking go to Presets, at the bottom of the drop down list is the option Save as Preset, click it, now name it in the window that just opened. Call it Raw Tweak or whatever. Click ok.
Now when you import, go to the Adjustment Presets and choose Raw Tweak. That will be applied to all your imports as long as it remains selected. Powerful Stuff !!! Welcome to Aperture. Allan
