Alert - Youtube has reported an error

So I've been using iMovie for about 5 months or so. I've had the odd problem, but have been able to fix it myself. But I just don't know what to do here. Every time I go to upload to YouTube from iMovie, iMovie says "Alert - Youtube has reported an error". I started over, still the same error. Google searched and no dice. I know I can easily export and then use Safari to upload, but iMovie is so much nicer.

Any help would be appreciated. I've got hundreds of subscribers and fans that want these videos uploaded :P

Wow, I have been having the same issue. in I-Movie I was still using my user name instead of my e-mail. Is that what you mean by unlinking. I did not change anything on you tube though.
I just changed it in I-Movie and now it is uploading. For some reason I got so sick of the errors that I just uploaded the video without the share option. And it says the video is over 7 minutes even thought it is less than 4 minutes, weird yes

Hi guys - I'm on the YouTube team. Apologies to hear about some of the login difficulties you've been having in iMovie. It's due to a change in our login process that we made late last year / earlier this year.

*The change we made*:

If you've linked your YouTube account to a Google Account, you now need to sign in with the password from your Google Account. Once linked, your old YouTube account's password is no longer accepted. There are a few different reasons we made this change - most notably, account security.

*The solution*:

*Option 1)* You can successfully sign in by putting your Google Account's password in the "Password" field, instead of your old YouTube account's password. Or, if it makes it easier, just sign in entirely with the Google Account linked to your YouTube username (i.e. the Google Account's email address + your Google Account's password).

*Option 2)* As others have pointed out, you can unlink your accounts (at http://www.youtube.com/myaccountunlink). But eventually all YouTube accounts will be required to be linked to a Google Account (reasoning here: http://youtube-global.blogspot.com/2010/07/connecting-google-account-to-your-old er.html), so I humbly recommend option 1 to save yourself annoyance down the line. 🙂

(YouTube accounts created after May 2009 shouldn't have this problem, by the way - just older ones that are now linked to Google Accounts.)

The "use your YouTube username@gmail.com" suggestion from earlier in this thread doesn't really work, by the way, unless your Google Account happens to a) use a Gmail account as its email address, and b) share the same username as your YouTube username.

And I hope we can work with the iMovie team soon to help make the login process aware of this particular error (so it can guide users to the solution).

Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help out. I also have another issue since all day yesterday. I have been sharing in I-Movie to you tube, finally got it to work as you have stated. But once it is on You tube the whole presentation has the music breaking up and not playing correctly. It is un watchable. It also is showing that the video is 7:25 and it is really 3:44. Here is the link maybe you can see what the issue is so I can stop making myself nuts I have done it 6 times already and same result. thanks so much, Ileen

Perry - I was so excited after reading this and believing my upload problems might be at an end. But I could not/youtube would not let me unlink accounts! under my email address it says, "Your Google Account's primary email address is a Gmail address, and thus can't currently be changed."
I even tried to sign up for a new account and it wouldn't let me without providing/signing up for a gmail account. Am I missing something?

Sorry, I guess I'm a true blond when it comes to certain things.
I'm going in circles now with gmail ("sorry, you cannot link a gmail account with google" huh?).
I guess I don't know the actual steps to "unlink". I've tried changing the email address to another @mac.com, and I keep getting sent back to my original profile page.
Is there a step-by-step guide for us imbeciles? 🙂
