Error codes -6999, -48, iphone won't sync!

Hello!
I'm new to this forum, having been an ipod owner for many years with no probs whatsoever, I've never really needed to ask any questions before (and I certainly don't know enough to answer any!)

I'm a very lucky girl and was bought an iphone 3GS for my birthday. However.... it absolutely will not sync. I have the latest itunes which will sync perfectly with my ipod original 30GB. It absolutely refuses to sync the iphone 😟

Error codes -6999 and -48 show up after the message telling me that it won't sync because the folder can't be found. Apple support has no suggestions/solutions and all itunes suggests is resetting the iphone (which I've done now, 3 times). I've been through previous discussions on here that suggest switching off firewall. Tried it, nothing. Tried reinstalling itunes, nothing. Tried checking the iphone as a disk for errors, nothing.

Anyone got any ideas? Or am I right in thinking that taking it back to the store in the morning with a sad face could be the only way forward?

Thank you all in advance!

Hi Katy I have the same problem but I get errors when I synch applications downloaded from iTunes, it seems to be an incompatibility problem between iTunes and Windows 7 (that's sure), so far there is no solution for this issue yet, but I've tried syncing my iPhone 3GS in Windows XP and works perfectly and doesn't give me any errors or problems. Try syncing your iPhone to another PC with Windows XP and the lastest iTunes installed.

I have a HP DV6 2005TX which has Intel Core i7 processor. I routinely got these issues but would have never thought it was an issue with the equipment inside the PC, I thought it was iTunes or the iPhone. I went to the HP website and got the latest BIOS drivers and the problem is now fixed. I have an iPhone.

When I was on HP's website, I noticed that my brand new computer perhaps in early December has loads of various drivers which have been updated. Such that you download them all one by one making sure that each one works.

In the meantime....I have lost loads of iPhone Application data 😟

I FOUND A SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME.

I went to my local Apple Store who believed that the problem must be hardware related as they went through all the diagnostics and reviewed all the error codes I had experienced.

They gave me a new 3G as a solution - this experienced the same problem straightaway.

My solution on my Mac was easy and I wished that I had tried it first off. I dragged the iTunes Music Library.xml file to the desk top. Opened iTunes and pointed it towards that file. iTunes rebuilt itself and from that point, the iPhone works and syncs as expected. I found that I needed to manually 'add to library' some files it missed like TV episodes and apps, but this was simple.

It's not a dodgy chip, corrupt iPhoto files for me - it was a corrupt iTunes library that needed to repair itself, as the files were all fine.

Please pass this on to any other forums you see with iPhone syncing issues.

flashinglightsarebad you have a completely different issue. This thread was in regards to new Windows 7 systems with -6999 and -48 error codes. This would occur in multiple users on the computer with completely new iTunes library in new user. The error also persisted after removing and reinstalling iTunes. Did you get that on your Mac?

Glad I found this post.. I am on Snow Leopard on an iMac not Windows 7 (either in 32 or 64 bit incarnations)... My iPhone 3G has been working fine for ages then I suddenly started to get this error after about a year. I did a reset of the iPhone and still it would not talk to iTunes... I do normally have backups so when I restore from backup (the one before it started going tits-up,) it is OK.. But I had deleted the backups.. So yourr trick of rebuilding the iTunes library worked a treat! Thanks

I am having the same problem (iPhone wants to restore from backup, backup doesn't work, setup as new phone causees error code -6999 and will not sync plus thinks my 16gb iphone is a 4gb one).

I do believe this is a dell issue.
I have a Dell Studio XPS 1645 running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit / iTunes 9.0.2.25 / iPhone 3Gs / Core i7 w/ PM55 Express Chipset.

I saw that LeeMidWest had the studio 17, but describes my exact problem. I just updated my bios to A03 (revised on 12/9/2009) and am still getting the problem.

HAS ANYONE FIXED THIS BY UPDATING THE BIOS?

If this IS indeed a BIOS fix, does anyone know a way of pushing the issue with Dell? There have to be a ton of people out there on the PM55 chipset that also have an iPhone and are pulling their hair out!

Intel has released a BIOS fix for multiple Intel motherboards (including my DP55KG) that resolves the "iTunes 9 on Windows 7 x64 Has Problems with iPhone" issues.

The BIOS can be found at http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=3064&DwnldID=18605 &lang=eng

This worked for me! I can now sync perfectly from all USB ports. Thank you Intel!!

Error codes -6999, -48, iphone won't sync!
