fans don't ever speed up?!

Hi guys,
I started to notice that my fans don't speed up when the cpu gets hot.. sometimes it will hit 90C and the fans are still at 2000rpm. I'm not sure if this happened only after installing SMCFanControl or not... is there a known issue with this ?

SMCFanControl is set to 2000min speed, but i'm forced to max it out for the min. speed since the fans dont turn on.

thanks for any help!

mbp, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

The thermal cutout in the processor itself simply won't allow your computer to reach 110C, Hount, and no Apple service centre would tell you this was "normal". Either you are using inaccurate temperature monitoring software or you have got your figures wrong, or you aren't using an MBP. The fans in these computers, if they are operating normally, begin to ramp up well before they hit 80ºC, not 110.

Anyone who has an MBP who finds that it runs at CPU temps of 90ºC under OSX without the fans increasing in speed should take it in for service. It is a clear indicator of a problem and NOT normal with these computers.

Cheers

For what I've seen (and I've seen *a lot* of MBP), most of the 2009's MBP, if not all of them, have this kind of behavior. Same thing for 2009' Mac Minis.
Apple keep saying that "It's normal" but if you have a degree in IT you know it's not ...

But using FanControl you can "fix" this issue

Well, I'm sorry Max(IT) but I would have to say that your regularly repeated comments about such matters, here and elsewhere on this board, are complete and utter rubbish.

I could say the same thing for what you said, and having a master degree in this matter, I' m pretty confident about my opinion.
BTW I've looked into some 23 MBs, MBPs and MINIs in the last 10 days, all 2009's models, ALL OF THEM showing the same behavior: fans extremely slow to react at high cpu's temperature.

Without any 3rd party utility running the cooling fans, if I play a simple Youtube video, the CPU temp goes up over 200º F and the fan speed climbs only to the high 2000's. Frequently if I'm not paying attention, the thing apparently gets so hot it just shuts down with no warning. Now all these arguments are fun and everything, but what about the issue? What is the solution? I've taken the computer to be serviced, and they replaced the logic board, and were apparently clueless. Then the warranty ran out. Does no one know what is causing the problem or how to fix it? I'm not interested in assigning blame, I'd just like it to work. Thanks.

I'm having this exact same issue. I'll get my CPU temp up to 205 F and the fans are still sitting at 2000 RPM. I just called AppleCare and they said to take it to an authorized service provider.

I never used SMCFanControl until after I began having the issue. It solved it but I don't want to rely on a 3rd party controller for this critical a function.

You are not going to have it repaired 😟
I have seen this issue on EVERY MBP from the last generation (mid 2009), and I'm speaking of more than 20 MBPs ....
