MacBook Casing Cracked

Hey, the casing on my MacBook cracked. Even though my computer is no longer covered by apple care, I called them and made an appointment with the Genus Bar. They Replaced the casing for free. 🙂 It turns out that the casing, keyboard and trackpad are all in one piece. Now I have a new keyboard, trackpad, and casing.

A while back I had that issue with where the keyboard is on my Macbook was cracking, and then I took it to a Apple store in VA, and they replaced the whole keyboard part, and it did not cost me anything, that apple store mention that is normal for the old ones to crack, and says it is normal. That has been a while back, and I the new bottom piece with the replacement keyboard has not even cracked yet.

They said the same thing when we brought in our white one the first time, _then the retail bar said something else_ when we took it in the 2nd and 3rd time for replacement.

We were told by the retail bar that it was _not covered under warranty since it was a "cosmetic issue"_ on two separate occasions, and that they weren't going to do anything about it. This was a 2007 white Macbook.

Finally, our white Macbook was begrudgingly replaced since it had gone in for repair multiple times for the cracking plus a few other things, incl. the fan, LCD, and battery. It was my wife's computer and she still hasn't taken it out of the sleeve yet... I think we're going to sell it and get another brand.

That's really weird mine is a macbook 13.3 unibody mid 2010 and I was shocked when I saw hairline crack below near the screw. I broght it to the service center here in Singapore and they took a picture. They said that it would take 1 to 2 weeks to get a reply with apple. Why its gonna take that long to ***** the crack that they already scrutinized?

My brother purchased a macbook in the spring of 2007. He got the applecare protection with it and he had to get the top plate replaced regularly due to cracking. At one point the trackpad also stopped working. He just graduated and got a new macbook pro so he gave me his old macbook but now im having problems with the top plate cracking. Do you have any recommendations as to what I should do?

Im concerned because often when I am typing I can feel the top clicking into the case of the computer.

Purchased the White MacBook as a retirement gift to myself in October, 2009. April or May 2010 I noticed a hair line crack on the bottom of the laptop next to a small screw. I did not notice it until I left the Apple store for them to check the battery. I called tech support and made an appointment to Genius Bar at the Apple store. I was told that replacing the case was very difficult and that they would have to check for any damages to the inside, the guy discourage me with all the info that they would need to do, so I just say never mine. He said that he would make a note so if I decided to get it fixed it would be documented. He said if there were any more cracks other than that one it would not be fixed. Sunday, July 25,2010 I took my MB to the Apple store due to slow response, the next day Monday, I notice two hair line cracks one on each side of the back of the screen. I am a 55 year old retiree and I do not drop, nor mishandle my laptops. Apple has not indicated that there are reports and cases concerning this issue. Had I not googled this I would not have known about this problem. I have made an appointment to take this to the Apple Store, and I am going to print out several of these reports to show them that this is very common and people are not dropping these laptop or mishandling them as they are trying to get one to believe. I want to thank each of you for taking the time to post these kinds of problems. Otherwise I would not have known about this issue.

Did you find out if Apple is doing anything to fix this deffect? The reason why I ask is that I replaced the cracked keyboard twice this year but moved to Israel in May and now it CRACKED again and I have no idea what I am going to do considering i live here now and my funds are limited : ( It is unfair that we spent $1000 on these laptops only to have them defective.

My macbook is about a year old now- I received it as a gift for Christmas 2009, although I believe that it is an older model because it isn't the unibody style and the trackpad has a clicker. Anyways, about a week ago I noticed a crack on the front edge of the topcase below the left palm rest. I have been reading hundreds of complaints for about an hour now regarding the same issue. It seems as though most of the computers affected by this are the white plastic bodies from Spring 2009 and also in 2006. Most people are reporting that the apple store replaced the topcase free of charge. I am very careful with my laptop and have never dropped it. I made an appointment at the genius bar and hope that they replace the topcase. I will report back with more info. after my appointment tomorrow.
