I have never had to perform this maneuver, but Isn't this the perfect opportunity to perform a Password Reset with your Mac OS X Installation DVD?

Insert your Mac OS X DVD.
Reboot and hold down the C key.
At the Welcome splash screen, go up to the Utilities menu and select "Reset Password".
Then choose the account in question.

Let us know if this helps. Cheers!

Installation DVD - I actually did not get one when I bought the notebook some two years ago... This was in a Warehouse in Berlin in not in a Apple Store... Can I download it somewhere?

Is there an email where I could report this to? I do not have a "apple care" so when I try to get support online I'm asked how I would like to pay for it.

Thank you all for the response, very good indeed.

Really? So you bought it loose without a box? If it was in an Apple box, the DVDs are likely still in there. Otherwise...

a. It is my understanding that you can call Apple, provide them with the serial # or your Mac, and they will send you replacement discs for only the shipping cost.

b. Alternatively, Snow Leopard is only $29. That would work as well.

I would check again. Apple can be very clever about packaging. It's probably deep inside the packaging.

You're saying I can buy the new Snow Leopard for only 29? Is that not the update price for newer Version than mine OSX10.4.11?

Hi you all,

in the meantime I have contact Apple by phone, that didn't help as I was asked to pay 50€ for the phone assistance that I didn't do. I was than told to write an email to feedback, what I did, still without reply. However my question now would be: if I do install Snow L, can I access a FileVault protected Account without the account PW or a Master PW, not likely I guess.

Thanks, Eliana

No, unfortunately I cannot access the one account with the long password even using my usual admin account which I'm working now because the backup account, as i call it, is protected by FileVault and the master pw is lost. I still can't believe I've created a password that does not apply, and because I new the account is locked I even wrote down the password, so I'm absolutely sure to have the right one. Still helpless.
Thanks!

Just curious, did you use the same password to create the Master Password as well? or a different password?

I assume that you are able to reach this window in the Accounts Preferences using the account that you are in now?

And I assume you have already tried entering the Master Password here?
