Bluetooth Mouse - Suggestions?

I'm looking for a multi-button BT mouse that will work perfectly with my PowerBook. My top candidate is Macally's BTmouseJR for price and how Macally has given me reliable good products in the past. Any suggestions or support for my decision?

James,
I must admit that for the price, BT mouse, no matter,
are no bargain at all, on that point you are right.
But to say that they are so much trouble to be discourage,
i do not agree. I have a BT500, and I like it even if I
have to change the battery often. I would not go with a
wired or dongle mouse just for that simple reason.

Hi Steve and James,

Based on using a wireless Logitech trackball, a BenQ M310 wireless travel-sized mouse, and a Bluetooth RadTech BT500, my experience and conclusions echo Steve's: If you want a travel-sized mouse, and no USB dongle for your PowerBook, the Bluetooth BT500 tracks fine, but yes it does go through a pair of AAA batteries quickly. And yes a non-Bluetooth wireless mouse can be had at noticeably lower prices.

James also observed a 1.5 ft range with his BT500. When I'm using my laptop on my lap, my BT500 rests on my laptop's right palm-rest area. When I'm at a table, my BT500 never gets 1.5ft away from my PowerBook. I can't comment on whether I would experience tracking problems with the BT500, were my BT500 regularly used farther away, but as I use it, my BT500 tracking is fine.

best regards,
...ben

PS. My BlueTooth BT500 goes through a pair of AAA's in weeks, as opposed to my BenQ M310 non-Bluetooth wireless mouse which manages months out of its pair of AAA's. Is there something about the Bluetooth radio spec that makes Bluetooth mice more power-consumptive?

Well, I definitely didn't use the mouse on my powerbook lol. I'm funny about marking mine up, so that'd worry me. Plus, part of the point of a mouse for me is being able to stretch out a bit more.

For what it's worth, the RadTech was the best out of them that I tried. I wound up returning it not because of the performance so much as one of the buttons stopped working after 3 days of use (and no I don't abuse my equipment 😉 )

As to bluetooth being more battery intensive, I think it has alot to do with the protocol overhead. I think data is encrypted as well. Bluetooth and other wireless mice both operate in the 2.4GHz range if I'm not mistaken, so it's pretty much all in the protocol.
