I'm getting my new iMac on Monday or Tues and I'm starting to wonder what I will do for sound. I have a 2.1 system now on a G5 tower and I must say it rocks. The iMac sounds quite underpowered in my mind. Are people using external speaker setups, a bass with the speakers in the computer or an external setup? If using a bass only how do you have it set up. If external speakers, whats the best at a good price these days. I have a huge sub and would like to slim down. If your using the internal speakers only, are you satisfied? Again I like great sound and I'm afraid the iMac won't satisfy my need for a rich and powerful sound.
I use the JTB creature speakers and like them but if the lack of clutter is important, it might not work because of the subwoofer, the two smaller speakers and all the wiring.
Those are some of the most hideous looking, over n' under eyed, horned things I ever seen. 😉
If I wanted ancient snails, I'd buy a couple of [these|http://shop.bluemooncrystals.com/category.aspx?categoryID=45] and put then on top of some real speakers.
If you're worried about clutter AND it's just music (via iTunes) you're interested in, you may want to consider an Airport Express attached to your current stereo or surround sound system.
I bought a pair of Bose Companion 2 Series !! speakers. They have a great full sound with terrific bass and no need for a large subwoofer. They are relatively small and look great with the skin of an i7 iMac. I was considering the M-Audio V30 but they don't have them at the Apple store or J&R Computers which is where I picked these up. They seem to have great reviews too but have a bigger imprint on the desktop and a horrendous blue light which I guess they think is cool but I would find distracting and annoying. It's a shame the built in speakers are so poor for music which is the perfect solution. Shame on Apple for putting some a terrible audio system in an otherwise fantastic machine.
