Awhile back I accidentally scratched my PB with my bracelet/cufflink and left a little scratched line. I was wondering are there any solutions that can get rid of the scratch or better yet any home made solutions that can buff/polish the scratch off. Thanks in advance.

No. Please. Don't.

Finally! Some sage advice that I agree with! However, before posting it as a solution, we must find out from the person for whom billet polish worked whether or not his computer suffers from the dreaded pitted palm. If it does, then Eureka! there's our answer...

Jonathan - I want to ask you a personal favor: When you reply to posts, would you mind pressing the curvy black arrow icon that appears above the text field in the post you are replying to instead of replying to the original post in the thread? That way your replies will be placed under the posts you are replying to, rather than at the bottom of the thread. It makes it easier to read sub-threads and to contextualize the thread as a whole.
Thank you.

Wait, you're agreeing with your own idea? And calling it "sage advice"?
Would not my own advice be properly described as "sage advice?"

Sighhhh - Jonathan, we know what will happen - more squabbling.
I keep trying to resist posting in these threads, but this polishing one has me repeating myself: IF you choose to apply any abrasive cleaner to the anodized aluminum surface of a PowerBook, you will be removing the protective coating. This will make the surface more susceptible to pitting or corrosion caused by oxidation of the Aluminum. If you do insist on trying to repair a scratch by buffing - you might also want to consider applying a wax or sealer to slow down the oxidation process.
I don't dispute your advice. That it should properly described as sage is something that I will have to meditate on.

wow. i did not realize there would be so much input on this topic...but it seems like idealism is more at stake than the actual topic at hand.

Not squabbling, intelligent discussion. Us Mac users never squablle. Quiblle maybe, but never squablle. Squander, perhaps. But never, ever, squabble.
I don't want to quibble, but I think I squandered my money on bogus billet polish. If someone could use it on their pitted palms, I would feel partly rectified.

I went to Pep Boy's and bought Mother's Billet. I have two marks on the back of the top lid that were put there by an Apple Service Center. The Billet did not do a thing to remove the marks, but instead let a shine mark where I tried to rub out the other marks. So some advise to all those tempted to try Billet, it doesn't work and will cause further damage.
Peter stated:
So, to all other doubters of the scientific method, we now have independent verification that billet polish does NOT satisfactorily remove scratches; quite the contrary, it RUINS the finish as I had already warned based upon my own independent experimentation.
Now all that is left is to try it out on some pitted palm rests...
