The error message is "The installer encountered errors before the requested operations for QuickTime could be completed. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again." I tried to fix quicktime and uninstall it wih no luck still same problem. Please HELP! Thanx.

We are sorry for the inconvenience. Please tell Microsoft about this problem". What is going on.....very frustrating!!!!

I suspect that QuickTime didn't properly install for you this time around either, nuvision.

Is QuickTime currently launching for you, or are you getting an error message when trying to launch that too?

Try heading in to your Control panels and attempting to open the QuickTime control panel. What is the precise text of the error message that you get when you try to do that? (The information about where Windows thinks the QuickTime.cpl is from that message will let us know if there's an interaction going on with a codec pack, or a video/audio conversion program which has been producing the launch and installation troubles.)

Hi there,
Got the same problem. Everything works fine on the control panel front, but when I try to launch QuickTime i recieve the exact same messege as with Itunes:"QuickTime Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Help please!
And the strangest thing is that simultaniously my Adobe Reader 8 Stopped working...
Any idea what's going on???

Hmmm. if your control panel is working fine, that rules out a bunch of possibilities.

Could you provoke another of those messages, please? Then click on the "More information" link in the error message box, and post back with the ModName and ModVer for your crash. (Precise spelling, please.)

Thanks Jonathan!

ModName: ntdll.dll

Hmmm. One of your core operating system files, there. It relates to drivers, attached devices, hardware devices within the PC, and so forth. BEX is a buffer overflow exception.

Did you install any software or attach any new hardware just prior to QuickTime and Adobe Reader going silly for you? If so, what was the software and/or hardware?

Thanks again!

Okay, it's possible that you may have a subtly damaged ntdll.dll on your system. (I say "subtly" here because with more normal sorts of ntdll.dll damage, you can have issues with blue screens, launch failures and so on.)

If the ntdll.dll is damaged, an sfc /scannow may be of assistance.

Sfc is a bit crankier on XP than on Vista or Windows 7. But the following article may be of some assistance with the various sorts of crankiness you might encounter with a scannow on XP:
