When moving iTunes media folder to new drive who creates the folder?
When you move your iTunes media folder to a new location (lets call it Z drive) should I just point iTunes at the Z drive and it makes the new folder itself or do I have to make a new folder on that drive (called what?) and then point iTunes to that?
If you set it at the Z: drive, th eloaction will be Z: iTunes media folder.
If you want a lower level folder such as \Music\iTunes media\, create the subfolders first.
When you move your iTunes media folder to a new location
Don't move it yourself.
Set iTunes prefs Advanced- iTunes media folder location to where you want.
Then go to iTunes menu File -> Library -> Organize library.
Everything will be copied to this new location.
You can create the folder during the process of changing the itunes preference.
Or you can create it in advance using Win Explorer, and then browse to it when you change it in itunes.
Either way.
You can name it anything you want, but personally I would choose something dull & short, yet descriptive, like "iTunes". Or "Media".
I definitely wouldn't use the root Z: location, though.
Thanks guys. I think I'll create a folder called External iTunes and point the preferences wizard thingamy there. Once I've done all this presumably its quite easy to then import content I've backed up from my old media folder into iTunes? I'm not too fussed about keeping my old playlists etc, however, will iTunes automatically sort out all the music, tv, movies etc from this folder (some 80gb or so)? I'm slowly gaining in confidence and getting close to trying all this again since my last hopeless effort!
